Apparently so. Makes sense given that agate and sapphires (and by extension, rubies) are beautiful and extremely hard.
They probably don’t have to worry about egg eaters.

Damn, eggs made out of agate or sapphire? Must be some strong as hell chicks if they can crack through rock that hard.
If you’re familiar with the mythology surrounding gryphons, they actually DO lay eggs. They’re very hard, shiny, and jet black. Like onyx.
That’s the way I think it works too.
