Pretty much how some friendships work in real life isn’t it?
 
The show covers that aspect really well i reckon, subtly i might add. Correct me if I’m wrong but i don’t know if we have seen lessons about friendships based on materialism. I wonder how they would tackle that.

Right About Everything
Gilda I think represents a kind of… lack of reflection than Rainbow Dash wishes she had. Dash wants to be a cool rebel, but constantly finds herself challenged by her low self esteem and sense of right and wrong.
 
Gilda doesn’t seem to have either of those things, and so seems totally in control. It makes sense that Dash would admire her a little bit. She hasn’t got the maturity to realize what Gilda truly is.

I sort of understand what your saying. Your worried that it’s veering into cliche (which i honestly don’t think is that bad a thing).

I’m just wondering how much of a shithead Gilda is going to act like around Rainbow Dash before it completely strains credibility that Rainbow Dash ever considered her her best friend, or even a friend.

Dunno, but among the underdog sports team, the suddenly into best friend story, the pregnancy subplot, and this, I feel like this story has run into just about every cliche they could hit.  
It pretty much all depends on what happens next, whether the tropes are averted or played straight.
