I think the Japanese do a better job bathing than Westerners. The Japanese will sit on a stool, then have a bath with a bucket of water and a cloth.  
That way they can wash themselves with, like, ten litres of water instead of fifty like us. Or whatever the actual numbers are.

It’s all how you look at it. The water helps prevent fumes… There would be a huge energy use to make a water free toilet. As to the shower thing… That’s very subject to who is showing.
 
My aunt keeps the water on for up to ten minutes before getting in every time because she thinks the pipe water is dirty. (She pays for it… But still)
 
I use a low flow shower head to save money and try to keep it under ten minutes…
 
Unless you can think of something better, getting really worked up about it is pointless.

You know, this reminds me of something I heard a bit ago that made me think.  
Every day we take a bowl of clean water & just… take a dump in it. Just right in it.
 
& then that reminded me of something more relevant from the same thing. The dude from that thing said that most of the clean water we use to shower doesn’t even touch us so…
