Heh. I do owe Wikipedia for the specific knowledge about them having lived in the north, but actually I first came across them (as Arimaspians, rather than Arimaspi, if I recall correctly) in Una Woodruff’s wonderful book Inventorum Natura, which is a beautifully illustrated interpretation of Pliny’s Natural History.

Hah! Another delightful piece of obscure mythology! The Arimaspi are a race of one-eyed people who were described by Pliny, among others, as being in a constant war/feud with griffons over the gold and treasures found in their northern homeland.
