I’d say it would be way more lazy to keep walking in the same old tracks and just warming up ideas and “lessons” that were already done before.  
In my opinion trying to bring some fresh elements into the story in the form of a new main character is anything but lazy. It’s quite challenging.  
And no, I’m not saying everything is perfect and I love Glimmer. But I respect the writers and the show and I accept that not everything will always go the way I want it to go.  
A LOT of people would do well to adopt that point of view…
 
HOWEVER.  
I don’t want this to lead to a long discussion (again). That’s what we have forums for.

The difference is:  
Glimmer was the main point of her story. SHE was the center of attention. A main character/antagonist. AND meant to become a lead character of season 7.
 
This one here is more a support character. The main story was about the six pillars.  
Very similar to Sombra, who was also just a support character to create some vague suspense while the main characters did their thing.
 
You just can’t compare Glimmer and pony of shadows. They’re two different types of characters.

If you really don’t care about shipping I have a solution for you:

Done.
 
If you’re not willing to do that I advise you to stop being publically butthurt about what other people like and leave.
