Avril Lavigne P!nk and Katy Perry’s albums in the 2000’s would qualify as Rock in the eyes of Billboard nowadays since they had heavier guitar than Imagine Dragons

You’re forgetting that the whole anti-pop/teen pop subgenre was pretty much dead by 2005 when the artists from that time either faded to obscurity or were starting to be more commercialized with the cases of Jojo and Ashlee Simpson. The only real pop singers from that time before Lady Gaga came were Kelly Clarkson, The Pussycat Dolls and Alicia Keys while the landscape shifted towards a more R&B and hip hop infused sound because of artists like Christina Milian, Ciara, Amerie, Cassie, Paula DeAnda, Kat Deluna and the like. Lastly, Nelly Furtado filled that gap temporarily when she reinvented herself as a club singer because of Timbaland before the sands really started to shift by the end of the decade.

Congratulations to Lewis Capaldi for his first number one song with “Someone You Loved”, which already went to number one months ago in his native UK. Now we’ll wait until 2020 for Dance Monkey to hit number one.

It feels like hitting a no.1 in the Billboard is less and less important nowadays

I mean, the industry is set up so that you could have a #1 hit in the country but still only make enough for four months’ rent, so that may have something to do it.

Look at all the Country/Folk/Songwriter albums in the top 50 , this really proves that 30+ people are the only ones buying Albums anymore . Taylor and Em seem like the exception to this, and in Ems case its tricky because he’s generational so his old fans might be the ones buying his albums while his younger fans use Youtube/Streaming

I want Chris Stapleton to get another Top 40 song and have a song reach the Billboard Year End that didn’t rely collaborating with singers who are past their prime.

It feels to me that both Pop and Mainstream EDM have became much more formulaic since 2015 or so
 
While Indie Music went from having surprising hits in the early 2010s to disappearing with some exceptions
 
Normal Rock is still dead in the mainstream but that has been the case since 2010 or so with AM being an exception
 
Seems like Hip Hop is the only thriving Genre popularity wise

The planet will die and humans will become extinct and hip hop will still be the reigning genre of music.

That’s not true, hip hop and rap will lose its popularity and another genre could become the most popular like for instance, pop could bounce back and become the biggest genre in America or if we’re lucky, rock may come back. Remember how we all thought that rock would be the reigning champion for music years back? Music changes and this isn’t gonna be any different.
