Not really, Sales wise other genres were more dominant in the 90’s, and in the 2000’s Eminem and 50 Cent was Insanely huge but otherwise Rock and Pop were bigger unless we count Usher as a rapper

It wasn’t untill the early 2010’s did Hip Hop become dominant

I’m pretty sure rap was a big force in that decade because after pop rap went dead, gangsta rap came and was a dominating force until bling rap arrived and took it over by the late 90’s. The only other really big genres from the decade were R&B, alt rock, and eurodance cause pop music wouldn’t make a comeback until around 1997 after being mostly absent for so long.

The 2000’s you could make a good case but it was briefly at the top of its game in the mid 00’s with Crunk and eventually ringtone rap being the hot shit cause pop took a brief backseat after the TRL/boy band era came to an end and rock was kinda on its way out by the late 2000’s with the last gasps of it being big.

Yeah, I don’t get it either. Besides, the early 2010’s was all about club pop and club music in general alongside indie music. Rap was popular in that time sure, but it wouldn’t be REALLY dominant until the middle of the decade with trap reaching a mainstream audience.

Was Crunk really popular outside of Usher? and Pop music was still going strong back then from what I remember

America

And yes, crunk was popular from 2003-2006 because of artists like Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz, The Youngbloodz, Lil Flip, Ciara, Petey Pablo, J. Kwon, Brooke Valentine and even other artists trying their hands at it like Will Smith, Beyoncé and Missy Elliott. Usher only had one song that was crunk, which was “Yeah!” cause that was produced by Lil Jon. Everything else he did from that album and time period was still R&B and pop songs like Burn, Confessions, My Boo and Caught Up.

Public Enemy and NWA didn’t reach chart success from their time cause their brand of hip hop didn’t click with the mainstream but Tupac and Snoop Dogg were household names in the 90’s and the latter comtinued having success for the next decade.

But was it really the most dominant Genre? Because Green Day Nickelback Outkast 50 Cent and many others had Big selling albums back then, and I mentioned Usher because his song is the first that comes to mind when thinking about Crunk other than Soulija Boy and…..Crunkcore

@ILoveMyoozik
I mentioned the early 2010’s because of how successful Eminem Lil Wayne and Pitbull were then

Rap was, Crunk was just a subgenre that came and went. And just because an artist has a big selling album doesn’t reflect the popularity of the genre itself. For example, this year BTS’s album went to number one yet there isn’t some sort of k-pop fad right now in the mainstream. Likewise, Madonna had an album this year that also went to number one but there isn’t a revival of 80’s pop singers because of it. What I’m saying is that a genre can be really popular at a certain time, but yet others can still have a time to shine to get big, like how funk and adult contemporary were popular when disco dominated the music scene alongside rock despite the accusations that it was “dead”.

Yeah, and so was Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum, Chris Brown, Usher, One Direction, and Justin Bieber.

I think people just dislike their counting stars song because of how overplayed it was
And because they are less interesting than a lot of the “electronic folky Indie Bands “ scene that exploded at the time but still was more successful than most of them

And that scene itself is hated by both Hipsters who saw it as a “commercialisation”of their music and Hard Rock fans who resented that it replaced their music in the mainstream

You can apply the “overplayed” argument to any song really. When I was a kid, I remember hearing songs like Give Me Everything by Pitbull, We Found Love by Rihanna, Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke and All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor over and over again on the radio because of how massive they were. Pretty sure it was also the same to the songs before our time like for how much people complain how Drake is oversaturated now, imagine their shock seeing how much Mariah Carey was exposed in the 90’s and The Beatles was in the 60’s.

And I’m talking about their overall discography, not just one specific song cause people forgot that Apologize was also huge hit of theirs in 2007.

I am not trying to justify those who hate them because of that song but a lot of musicians got Insanely hated because people got sick of hearing them everywhere . Pitbull got much more hate then they ever did .

Which honestly is a stupid thing to hate someone over. If anything, they should hate the radio stations for overplaying it and other studios for using those songs in their commercials way too much.

Watching Robin Thicke’s performance of one of the songs from his album “Paula” at the BET Awards, I love how when it gets to the moment when it looks like he’s tearing up, you can literally hear people in the audience laugh like they know that he’s just being a butthurt melodramatic baby. XD

Since Todd hasn’t done a TrainWreckords video in a long while, I got an album for him to review: Mariah Carey’s “Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel”. Not only was her star fading by the late 2000’s, this was around the time where she had a feud with Eminem that to no one’s surprise killed her image and career. That and the fact that she used autotune cause trying to stay relevant I guess.
