I didn’t even see much of that either. In fact, plenty of people loved both movies, and Zachary Levi himself said that there didn’t need to be a rivalry between the two.

I wasn’t too fond of Robin Williams’ Genie from Aladdin. Genie’s way of constantly referencing pop culture in a completely anachronistic way got obnoxious as hell by the end of the movie, and the character only worked because Robin Williams is such a big force of personality.
 
Worst of all is how Genie’s popularity led to other western animation throwing in anachronistic pop culture references. Seriously, that crap basically ruined the Thief from The Thief and the Cobbler.

Blame those trying to cash in on another movie’s success. And wasn’t The Thief and the Cobbler meant to be partly silent but the studio decided to give a silent character a consent inner monologue?

Both of the titular characters were meant to be silent, yes. And while the other characters talked, it wasn’t really about much: The king was lazy, the princess was an airhead, etc. It provided a great contrast for the villain, voiced by Vincent Price, who spent a lot of time in the film monologuing. But that contrast doesn’t really work in a cut of the film where everybody won’t shut up.

Why? What’s wrong with giving people the same opportunity’s as others? And letting someone marry who they want? I fail to see why you think either of those are wrong.

You have to be more specific. There are a lot of variations of Egalitarianism.

Especially since Richard Williams, the film’s director (until he was booted off), wanted it to be a visual experience.
 
At least The Recobbled Cut is slowly becoming a cult classic.
 
But hell, the trend that Aladdin started, where characters spouted obnoxious pop culture references in anachronistic settings? That would continue even outside of those two films, like with the dragons from Quest for Camelot, Mushu from Mulan, the rapping dog from Titanic: The Legend Goes On, and just about every character in Shrek. It’s even continuing to this day; as much as I enjoy The Dragon Prince, the pop culture references throw me off every time.
