The Force in Star Wars makes me ponder…

If “The Light Side” is just regular “The Force” then does that technically mean all beginner as well as longtime neutral/non-aligned users would be connected closer to the Jedi or than any Dark Side Order even with no history or being notoriously good/kind/super caring or evil/selfish/generally douchey?

I am watching Dawn of the Dead from the 70s, and I got surprised that the zombies were still afraid of fire or very strong lights.

I thought Romero dropped that idea after Night of the Living Dead.

That’s one of the oldest contentions within Star Wars writers.

Lucas has been straightforward from the start. As the video said, there’s the Force, and then there’s the cancer that is the Dark Side of the Force.

Basically every other writer however heard “Dark Side” and had the natural knee jerk assumption that there was a “Light Side”, and therefore they are Yin/Yang duality.

Who has the better idea is up to the fans but eh.

The clusterfuck that is Paramount Global will never not amuse me.

This is exactly what happens when a family-owned media giant is mismanaged for 25 years.

The “Dark Side” is all about usage.

It’s attempting to bend the force to your will rather than living through it, and letting its will work through you.

That’s why the cancer analogy works well. Because if we’re all “cells” in the body of the force, dark side users are cancer cells that steal power from the whole to fuel themselves.

Lore varies, but it is possible to be an evil “light sider”, though the closest a dark sider can really get to “good” is pragmatic selfishness and not overtly evil.

And this is why people so often don’t understand what Balance of the Force Means.
The think Balance must mean that there has to be having equal users of the Light Side and the Dark Side but it’s a bit more nuanced than that.
As has been said the Dark Side is a cancer and there is no balancing having cancer.
The Dark Side is self-centered it’s about bending the Force to the users will and thus bending the world to their will hence “The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some would consider unnatural.” And that disrupts Balance.
Balance is harmony it’s the system working as intended Dark Siders seek to exert control over that system whereas a Jedi’s duty is to serve that system.
The problem is the Jedi aren’t very good at that because whereas the Sith are focused on bending the physical world to their will with the Force the Jedi detach themselves from it seeking a oneness with the Force but they detach themselves too much from the physical world often leaving themselves ill equipped to deal with the issues that plague it issues that the Sith are all too happy to exploit for their own ends.
For my belief Balance of the Force begins in Balancing oneself in being part of the world without becoming obsessed with it to.
There’s a whole spiel Lucas has about what is happiness and when you hear it you realize his talking about the Dark Side and how a Jedi should be basically.

As divisive as Last Jedi was, Luke’s line about the Jedi Order being a history of failure is somewhat on the mark.

Though, more a history of falling to hubris and blind dogma.

Well I don’t disagree with this notion my problem comes from how it’s used to justify Luke being a failure.
Wanting to criticize the Prequel era Jedi for their fuck ups is fine I’m for that but we don’t know anything about the New Order Luke had built because neither of the creatives of these films could be bothered to give a shit about what it was like so Luke is basically just going “I sucked like every other Jedi ever as is our tradition.”
This is why Jedi Fallen Order worked it did a lot of story stuff TLJ tried to do but with actual thought put into what it’s saying like when it wants to critique the Jedi Council it critiques the actual Council not someone that’s scapegoated to fill in for it.

Seriously though, Star Wars has enough lore and world building to where it can do different ongoing timelines that are all canon in their own respect similar to Marvel and DC.
