I have a shrewd theory.  
You see, I think you can explain voting patterns as ethnic things. And Christianity is really the only mass organizer of white people, as well as being more traditional so it fits with the ostensible Republican agenda.

I have a serious question for Christians who oppose gay marriage on the grounds that God Does Not Like That.
 
If you oppose it for that reason, then what does it matter if gay marriage is legal or not? Gay people will still fall in love and live together. Unless of course your God is the old testament type who butchers entire civilizations for the actions of individuals in which case why the fuck would you worship such an evil god?!
 
Believe it or not I have actually asked this question of some hard core christian acquaintances of mine, and the reactions can be summed up as follows: “Well you see: shut your fucking face, sinner.”

There’s a line in Leviticus, plus the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, where in Lot is ok with the mob gangraping his daughters, but doing that to dudes is just unthinkable.
 
While there isn’t anything expressly homophobic in the New Testament that I know of, I have other issues with it, namely the invention of hell (seriously, the New Testament is where hell is first mentioned.)

Alright then

Not the first time that Oklahoma lawmakers have pulled incredibly stupid shit like that, if I recall; if legit, that’s mind-blowing. There are no words to describe it, and there are no legitimate excuses to justify it.
 
I’m kind of surprised these things happen in Oklahoma and not my home state… which is ridiculously conservative and leans so far right it’s likely to topple over soon.
 
Adding on to that and some comments above about certain passages and tales in the Old and New Testament… as they say, with more than a little degree of truth that I can verify from personal experience, the quickest way to lose religious faith is to read the Bible. There are so many things in there that are downright horrifying and cruel. Believe me, I’ve read it all the way through. Never. Again.
