Kirby General Discussion Thread

Hate to get this thread even more sidetracked, but anyone else remember the viewtiful joe anime? I saw it once on kids WB and after that it was gone forever.

Yeah, the art style matched the game perfectly. Seriously, Capcom needs to rerelease that game series.

Yeah, although I didn’t care for it, really. Then again, I rarely pay any mind to Viewtiful Joe in a whole.

Well, the Japanese version of the F-Zero anime lasted for either 50 or 51 episodes, but the dub sold so poorly that they didn’t get to all of it before it was cancelled.

Well Nightmare in Dreamland is a Remake of Kirby’s Adventure.

Only slightly easier than the NES original.
 
Oddly enough, some of the characters from the anime appeared in advertising for the game, and I hear they were on the boxart, even though they didn’t show up there whatsoever.
 
My dislike about the anime is not just the censorship (like cutting out Kirby’s attempt at drink mixing, which itself was a reference to one of the “random” abilities he could receive from inhaling two copy-able enemies), but the blatant switch between CGI and traditional animation for certain characters.

At least Kirby himself was always consistently CGI, as was Dyna Blade. Though the random switches between traditional and CGI characters (which happened most often with Dedede and Escargoon) was in the Japanese version as well. No idea why they did that.

Not only that, but due to that the third F-Zero GBA game “F-Zero Climax” didn’t get released here, sense it tied into the anime a bit like “GP Legend.” Which is a shame ‘cause the “GP Legend” game was good, (even if you didn’t like the anime, it was much better then the previous GBA game “Maximum Velocity.”) and this unreleased one had promising features including a custom racetrack editor.
 
The series finale (that only aired in Japan) also famously adapted the Falcon Punch from SSB.

Alot of shows were kinda guilty of that, though some like “Futurama” blended the CGI effects a bit better.  
It also looked a bit weird at times seeing 3D characters moving stiffly in anime fashion.

I’ve had a Youtube playlist with the Japanese version of the F-Zero anime with English subtitles saved for a few months ago, but I’ve yet to get around to actually watching it. Fortunately, the videos haven’t been removed yet, and they’re probably not all that likely to be removed.

I’ve watched some of the last few episodes, but not the whole series. They were pretty good though.
 
I actually don’t mind anime dubs, but 4Kids did do some unfortunate changes. In fact, some of the BGM for the Kirby & F-Zero animes were based on BGM from the game series, (Kinda like the old Mario cartoons.) but 4Kids replaced all the BGM for them. Which is odd, ‘cause they left the BGM in tact for Pokémon.  
Fans were especially mad at “Live & Learn” being edited out of “Sonic X” though 4Kids might’ve not known Sega owned the song.

I know you’re tired of hearing this, but 4Kids seems to have no problem with their own American shows like the 2003 TMNT series being darker and grittier.

Speaking of other videogame cartoons how bout that upcoming megaman show? Yay or nay?

I hear that’s because 4Kids had less input in it, and Peter Laird & Mirage had more say-so over the 2003-2008 TMNT show.  
4Kids did manage to ban an entire episode “Insane in the Membrane.” (For being too gruesome & creepy.) Banning the episode in America, even left a small gap in the continuity with Baxter Stockman.
 
Still, surprisingly they didn’t censor Leonardo decapitating the Shredder (though his helmet helped obscure any gory details) like in the original comic canon.  
Granted… Unlike the comic, he survives, due to not quite being “human.“

I’d rather wait for an episode first.

A Kirbeh artist got the English voice actor for the Dub’s Metaknight to confess his love for Galacta Knight at a con (They draw shipping artwork of Kirby x Magalor(Who’s a girl apparently) and Metaknight x Galactaknight (Who’s also a girl.They do Humanized too.)

You know, I loved to older Kirby game commercials, all the ones up to 64 that is, most of them seemed to have the bit going of how tough he is before the internet came up with any meme like stuff about it.

The edgy ‘90s Kirby commercials were hilarious. Obviously, NOA was trying to copy Sega a bit, but they had a point as Kirby isn’t as cutesy/kiddy as some think, he is quite badass.
 
Not to mention, alot of the villains are total nightmare fuel. (One even bleeds red blood uncensored.)

I think Dream Land 2 was my fav, the biker guy reading a poem about friends as Rick, Kine, Coo, and Kirby come in and have a bar brawl with other bikers is just the best.
