What the hell were they doing? It’s almost like they deliberately sabotaged the whole Windows phone concept.

Most likely, because their methods were more profitable.
It reminds me of a story from back in the 70s about a person in Kodak making blueprints for a digital camera, but Kodak didn’t do anything with it because they were afraid it would hurt their profits from film sales.

The failure of Windows Phone also brought the catastrophe of Nokia
Although Nokia resurface today, it is not the same as the past, it’s just a name. Current Nokia devices are made by a small lesser known Finnish-Indian company , HMD Global
