I tackled a tempared Black Diablos and than maxed out Barioth’s research in the hope that the quest Proud White Knight to appear. Neither worked, unfortunately.

Yeah, considering there’s usually only a year-long gap between them.

That’s annoying, but at least they try to change the story even a little. In Monster Hunter, you buy G-rank/offline high-rank as an entire new game, and you can carry over your progress depending on what generation it is from.

I mean, there’s also exclusive Pokémon only obtainable in one version of the game released alongside another with its own exclusives.

It’s to make each one worth something and meet with others to trade what you can’t get on yours. To be social with others. If that’s your criteria, then trading card games are “bad practice” since you don’t have every card in the pack you get.
 
Honestly, I think the inclusion of the internet kind of ruined trading, because they took that face-to-face out of the equation and became very robotic.
 
I think that’s why Pokémon Go became so popular since it kind of brought back that comradery, although dumbing a lot down in the process.
