If it did it that way, you’d still be able to see it in the recent comments part of the sidebar.

If upvotes and the total score are shown, anybody with a mathematical brain can work out how many downvotes are on the image, even if downvotes are hidden.

This is why I voted to make upvotes and downvotes hidden by default.

I’d love to fill in the survey, but you need a Google account to submit the form. I don’t have such things, so I can only watch.

The problem with that is many people use Site filters. So it would have to also detect if that’s the case, clone the filter as a user’s personal one, then add the image id to complex filter field.

Okay, I filled out the survey with what I thought was best. I’ve softened from my anti-downvote position. But, I’d like to see downvotes hidden by default or at least be able to be hidden by site users. I’m also hoping we can fix downvote abuse (especially those of you who are not using filters but consistently downvote particular types of images). I really want it so artists aren’t intimidated by negative scores on good pieces. I’ve seen it more than once. For example, a good piece of art that features for trans pride or a hijab will get a suspicious amount of downvotes. It doesn’t happen to every single image like this but it happens too much. If you don’t like then don’t view.
 
As an artist myself (I know I haven’t posted in awhile) I find that abuse of down voting has a chilling effect. Why should I bother posting my art to Derpibooru, even if it is good, if people are just going to make me feel like shit because they kneejerk downvote it. That’s how I feel anyway. I feel like downvotes can get used as a way of bullying and intimidating artists into silence or conformity.
 
Please, please, let us registered users at least be able to hide downvotes!

I find the style on both of these pictures genuinely repulsive and I would have downvoted them, had I ran across them some other time under different circumstances. I mean nothing personal by it. I noticed that all your other pictures where you employ different styles have an overwhelmingly positive upvote to downvote ratio, ruling out people bombing your art because they dislike you personally. So maybe you could try accepting that maybe people just, you know, don’t like one or two of your pictures, without meaning any offense by it and regardless of the time or effort you spent on them, instead of complaining about imaginary (at least in your case) slights such as “downvote abuse” and trying to curb down on them by imposing arbitrary regulations on downvoting.

Voted in favor of making spamming/brigading upvotes, downvotes, and hides a punishable offense. I’d like to clarify that I only want this done if a person is making multiple accounts, or if it can be confirmed that they’re calling in uninvolved people from outside the site to make accounts/return to the site and spam votes for them. If they’re just voting on a lot of images with the same tag, the most that should be done is a suggestion to use filters instead.

So it’s an “anonymous survey”, but we have to “sign in to our Google account” so that we can be tracked and counted when we do it? Skeptical.

I like having my complex filter uncluttered. Is it possible to add another box that contains all hidden image IDs with a dropdown button to change the order that the images are in the box?
 
The three possible orders would be “first hidden on top”, “first hidden on bottom”, and “numerical”. Numerical would arrange the hidden images by their number.
 
I am not trying to sound demanding; this is just a suggestion.

You’re not obligated to do anything because people dislike your work. It’s not bullying or censorship for them to downvote a picture, it’s just expression, and it definitely isn’t intimidation because downvotes don’t have any practical effect on your ability to use the site.
 
I do think it’d be fine for all users, registered or otherwise, to be able to decide whether they’d like to view upvotes, downvotes, and hides on images. What crosses into censorship is allowing artists to disable/hide the downvote system on pictures they’ve made.

Personally, we should do away with scores entirely. If you like it, fave it. If not, hide it.

I can get behind the idea. This site does have the same problem Youtube has where trolls will thumb things down just because they can. Like when you look at someone like Spectre-Z’s work, he makes some amazing, show accurate animations. Some even look better than source material, and yet every one of his pieces have at least 20 thumbs down from cool kids.
 
You may not not like EQG, or the content of the art, but there’s no denying that his animations are well made and very polished. It’s not even an opinion. His animations are good. Nothing could be said to ever convince me that those downvotes are legit.
 
Here’s another good example:  
 
This image has 3 downvotes at the time of my writing this. Really look at this art and let that sink in and try to convince yourself that those are genuine downvotes.
 
 
The negative vote system is kind of pointless. If it did get done away with, it would probably help the feature system more than hurt it. It would still go by high ratings, but wouldn’t be addled by trolls thumbing it down for no reason. I think this would help the chances for smaller artists to get noticed.
 

 
On the other hand, the negative votes also don’t have that much of an impact and probably wouldn’t make much difference. Either way, I just know that removing them wouldn’t be anything world destroying.

I disagree with you. And I never said the word censorship. I won’t pretend I know the solution but there are seriously people on this site that are using it as a quick “f you” to anything they don’t agree with.

I prefer not to fav image I just like but do not love, so how would I keep track of ones I like without mixing them with ones I love?

Make galleries with the images you like, and the ones you love, respectively.
 
But it really seems like the alternative is allowing “approve / disapprove” voting opens the door for troll shit.

Putting a lot of work into something doesn’t give someone the right to a positive reception for it. Sometimes you’ll produce a result people just don’t like, even after significant effort. It’s up to you to decide whether to take those opinions into account, but seeking to suppress them entirely is no better than if they’d tried to erase your picture because they found it unappealing. And that’s why I think Honest Apple was a very bad episode.

It does not tell us who voted for what. That’s just Google’s only solution for preventing multiple votes. They don’t go by IP or anything

The paint aesthetic is really choppy on Derpy’s wings and hair, as well as the clouds closest to her. Nitpicky, yes, but still genuine faults that someone could downvote over.
 
And pretty much everything in your argument could be flipped on its head to remove upvoting too.

Which why not just eliminate all votes in general then since what does it mean if a cookie cutter T&A fetish commission gets 200+ upvotes with nothing but people typing out fantasies underneath it? How is that more constructive than an image that is garbage being downvoted into oblivion? If you can’t be chastised for garbage then why should you be complimented for easy upvote bait?

That’s basically what I said except I was asking why somebodies boner fuel should be allowed to break through the heavens with their upvotes. This isn’t supposed to be a coddle factory. Last time I checked it never said when I made my account that I had to give a pat on the back and a compliment to every “artist” who uploads on this site. This is a public place and as such should be treated as a place where people are free to hate or like what they will. If they can’t even handle an indirect public forum of sorts for their art then why even do it in the first place?
