This image has 3 downvotes at the time of my writing this. Really look at this art and let that sink in and try to convince yourself that those are genuine downvotes.
 
I have no trouble picturing three people disliking that picture. To illustrate, that’s roughly 0.24% of the total number of people who rated it. It’s one of the most universally liked pictures on the site. If you find the concept of even the slightest minority of other people disliking what you like so offensive that you have to post online about how absolutely mind-blowingly audacious it is of them, and that they’re surely just trolling, I suggest you sit down for a while and think hard about the definition of egocentrism.

The hide feature we had introduced for a moment, and are currently polling people on doesn’t add the image IDs to your active filter, it’s a separate system entirely where that information is kept. You’d still be able to search your hidden images, to restore one due to miss-click/what have you.

this was a weird survey.
 
first off, some questions don’t really make sense.
 
  1. Should hiding affect an image’s score negatively?
     
    Then, what’s the point of hiding the image?. you’re not suggesting trading hide with downvotes, by making hide a hybrid of both? that wouldn’t solve the problem of downvote abuse.
     
     
  2. Should artists be able to disable the display of downvote counts - for all users - on images they are tagged the artist of?
     
    This doesn’t even feel like a legitimate question, nor does it make any sense.. this feels like you guys are pandering to the community here, ofc no one wants this. I trust artists to make some good points and request help when necessary from an active Staff team, but that trust dies when they’re being handed mod tools over their own images, plain and simple. (inb4 Stafartists kill me)

    I’m not sure what the point would be, seeing as how any ‘abuse’ of hiding images is to the detriment of the one putting more stuff on hide and virtually no grief to the artist/s. That is unless, we get hide to also cast a downvote, but seriously, what would even be the point of replacing the downvote that we already have?
     
     
  4. Should hiding an image unsubscribe a user from the image?
     
    More points counter to the feature in question.. what is the point of hiding an image, if you stay subscribed to its comments and in turn, visit the same image that you’re supposedly hiding?
     
 
but in general, this kind of sounds like a decent idea, you have Favorite-Like and Dislike-Hide to contrast the other two, but I have to ask what’s the point of changing anything if it doesn’t help with any of the issues mentioned?

I’m pretty sure downvoting does do something… but comments can’t have negative scores
Because I see comments that get a TON of replies that should have quite a few upvotes too but doesn’t show a score (and I assumed that’s because there’s more downvotes than upvotes)
Late reply is late, but that’s a glitch. Those comments actually do have a high score, it just doesn’t show them sometimes for some reason.

Sad Confused Artist.
As an artist I would say that it’s not really fun when there are someone hiding and disliking your every single work on this site. I would love dislikes and likes to be visible for public to see - this will solve most vote-spamming problems.
 
But of course watchers don’t give a damn about that because it is opinion thing for them.  
Every time I see my works almost instantly being downvoted into the ground for a several hours until eventually my usual watchers start giving their favs.
 
I think that this may be one of the reasons most artists here don’t participate in topics. If you offend anyone somehow you will most likely receive negative scores for your works regardless of their quality or theme.

The whole point of ratings is to judge the quality of an image, not personal taste.
 
It’s like going to an image with scat in it and thumbing it down for having scat. Don’t add scat to your filters in the first place. I don’t like scat either, and that is a personal taste and does not change the level of quality to the image. I’m not super into Gorillaz music or their art style, but I can acknowledge that they are high quality, because personal taste and quality are separate things.

The paint aesthetic is really choppy on Derpy’s wings and hair, as well as the clouds closest to her. Nitpicky, yes, but still genuine faults that someone could downvote over.
 
And two little nitpicks you pull out of your hat warrant a flat zero on the entire image? That’s some flawed logic. In Return of the King Extended Edition, I hate the scene where Gandalf is coughing while he’s talking to Pippin. It feels really forced and there’s no real point to it. That doesn’t mean I give the entire movie a thumbs down over a nitpick.

Are you really incapable of accepting the fact that no matter what, an image will almost always receive a least 1 downvote? You really think that with thousands of votes on an image there won’t be some negative votes? You’re complaining about 3 downvotes on something that has 1 thousand plus upvotes.

Maybe we wouldn’t be complaining about it if we knew why it was downvoted. Without it, for all we know the sole reason that the picture was downvoted was because someone saw all the upvotes and went “Imma downvote this pic and ruin the perfect score because I like being an asshole, trolololol”.
 
And if they are like that, then they deserve a swift kick in the butt.

And how, exactly, do you propose we judge the quality of art without taking personal taste into account? If completely objective and detailed guidelines for judging art existed, why would we even judge it to begin with, with the quality or a lack thereof being self-evident, measurable and consistent from person to person?  
Anyway, according to the ratings, >99.76% out of well over a thousand people liked the picture. I’m not exactly sure I can spot the terrible abuse of the rating system here that offends you so much.

What’s the point in having a voting system if people aren’t allowed to dislike something? This isn’t facebook, we’re not passive-aggressive family members. Derpibooru is an art site, and our ability to express opinions should reflect that. Not everything needs to be done in the comments.
 
Yes, there are some images that get downvoted unfairly, but if this is a concern, just don’t let other people vet your images for you - take off the auto-hide at -5 tag or whatever it is these days.
 
I do like the concept of an insta-hide button - say, if someone is searching along one of their favorite tags, finds something they really don’t like, and maybe filter tags aren’t enough to hide it?  
But that shouldn’t replace downvoting. Hiding serves better as a separate function.
 
TL;DR: Keep the downvote, make quick-hide separate.

I vote “yes” for downvotes, its a advantage of this site.
 
Maybe will that replace with more different judgements (best/good/meh/bleh/worst) but then are hard to invent numbers.
 
If downwote abuse are real thing, then will delimit it like you can downwote things only if you add commentm why?
 
Must admit that both ideas seems stupid, so better let it be it like it was whole time.

In an environment where some artists are now apparently borderline suicidal due to red arrows, and other people are livid because images they like don’t have a 100% flawless like to dislike ratio, I think you’re being unduly optimistic.
