Could we PLEASE get rid of speaks in hushed tones The Eternal Thread?! It’s existence is an insult to this site’s dignity and integrity, you don’t have to do it but i’m just asking. I’m also wondering why you haven’t shut it down yet?

It’s not so much an issue as it is a nuisance.

Why…“exactly” should we get rid of it?

No reason in particular, i just find it in incredibly poor taste for people to continue posting an endless stream of worthless bullshit in the comments on that one goddamned picture, people want to continue the “party” cause they think it’s a “joke” and wanna be a part of it. Look, it’s nice that you have Derpibooru in your heart so much to want it to be the Perfect Site, but really, we had much, much worse than an endless thread of gifs.  
If you don’t want to take part on it, just ignore it.  
They’re not insulting anyone, they’re not hurting anyone.  
It’s just a little, barely noticeable more strain on the server.  
What’s the big deal?
 
The only reason to close it is that it’s totally off topic and should belong to the forums.  
But other than that, it’s just the expression of Derpibooru as a community. The same community that says “duck” to insult OPs, that love gif parties, that made TSP go insane.  
Nobody’s perfect.

The party is long dead, I’ll admit. But there’s no good reason to get rid of except it being off topic. And even that reason is a bit shaky. We don’t lock off the first image to comments because the people who comment there are usually just testing BBC/fooling around. It’s a part of this site’s history. And I think that the Eternal Thread deserves that sort of honor as well. If someone was trying to recreate that thread, it might be reason to complain. You, on the other hand, are just grabbing at straws.
 
And I’m speaking as, like, one of three people who still comment there. Let it stand to shock and impress newcomers. Let it stand as a testament to the people of Derpibooru’s loyalty.

You know the image has several one of a kind tags that you can block to basically block that particular image right?  
That thread is a monument of this site, albeit an accidental one. It’s a part of our culture.  
The last thing most people want on this site is someone trying to nanny our behaviors.

I love how this forum post against The Eternal Thread has done nothing but advertised it, rekindled it, and introduced it to the new generation of Derpi users.

I think the only time they ever did anything about it was when they “deleted” it mid-party just to freak everyone out and when they locked the image from comments (granted, it had crashed the site at that point…)

Whatever rolls eyes dismissively, i just thought the eternal thread was downright disgraceful (harmless enough to tolerate as it is though) to this site simply for allowing it’s existence.

That reminds me. There are other images with more than a thousand comments that should probably be getting the axe too, they’ve received more than enough attention as it is.
