One more (small) suggestion:
perhaps the text could say
“Please read derpibooru.org/rules before commenting”…_etc.
instead of “_the site rules
”.
It’s the same lenght but it means the link is immediately there, of the person who the warning is for doesn’t know it.

(Because there is no quick direct link to click anywhere on the sidebars for the rules at the moment.)

Wait how do I put pictures on the comments? The instructions on the bottom seems cryptic to me.

I got a better idea: don’t enforce Rule 7.

I’m no rule-expert or lawyer, but doesn’t Rule 7 seem redundant?

Like OP said, we’re all adults here anyway. Why waste time trying to make something more “kid-friendly” like the comments of particular images?

Yes, let’s throw out the concept of tags altogether.

What you’re proposing is allowing people to post hardcore scat necrophiliac porn in the comments of a nice and cute safe image. Yes, there are circumstances where that wouldn’t be done to troll, like “isn’t this the same artists as this image?” or “her eyes remind of the the puss blisters on this image”?

So no, how about people just follow the damn rules like adults.

I didn’t say “throw out tags.” And secondly: I NEVER made any preposition that people will start posting pics of people fucking corpses, people pissing and shitting on other people, etc. That’s a very common Hobbes-ian argument.

Most adult human beings I know are FULLY CAPABLE of governing themselves without a “state,” without a “king,” and without “owners.”

Using political theory (to sound like an expert?) in a pony board discussion - that is SO adorable. xD
(no idea what it has to do with anything tho’ - if you think every person is capable of being in charge of governing his own behavior you clearly have not looked at it closely what the mods do with their time every day…)
  • cough - Anyway…

There was a comment the other week where somebody said that we should get rid of the system tags “since this is a porn site anyway”. SmilingPony (mod, above) actually had to remind him that no, this is not a porn site.

Point is, it may seem easy to think that when 90% of the users likes something, you can disregard the feelings of the remaining 10%. Except - that’s not actually such a great idea. Even your “adults” don’t all enjoy everything, like a particular fetish or a certain degree of sadism/cruelty. So those “ignorable” minorities actually turn out to be the greater majority when you add them all up.

DB was built on the concept that every user can set up their filters in a way that allows them to safely enjoy their preferences without being forced into anything they don’t enjoy. The Safe tag allowing one to browse here like one would be browsing a family friendly site is a prime example of this. Keeping up this Safe tag actually does a lot for good public relations for us, and for bronies in general.

It may seem like a waste of time to you, but being considerate of others’ wants is never a waste of time. What seems not such a big deal to you will actually get thank you letters to DB from others.

And yes kids and their moms do actually use the site. But maybe more importantly, adults who prefer just looking at Safe do too.

(Not that I’d know about all this, being just a silly user n’ all…)

“…if you think everybody is capable of being in charge of governing themselves…”

I didn’t say ‘everybody,’ I said ‘most.’

And, personally, I AM considerate at least 99% of the time (other 1% busy defending myself or others). It’s one of the main ideas behind the Non-Aggression Principle.

Does this mean that in discussing a BDSM porn image, you have to say “I don’t think this looks like DARK rape? Because Exhumed Legume seems to think so, and that frankly seems overly cumbersome and restrictive.

There is some leeway; just use common sense. If it looks like hard dungeon BDSM it makes sense to discuss something like that up to a point. If it’s just two characters going at it and one has a blindfold or collar, then no, not really. Common sense etc.

And for clarification, “up to a point” doesn’t include ”and then I rape her daughter in front of her” or ”I hope they slit her throat at the end and fuck the hole” or ”this is one of her good days because she’s nothing but a whorish sex slave now. I’m talking more ”this kind of makes me uncomfortable because it might be rape”.

I think something that might make this less clumsy and stupid-looking is if you added some extra spoiling mechanisms. Like for instance if someone typed “Awww, she’s so cute; I just want to @[spoiler:“questionable”]bury my face in her breasts and go hbblblblpffft[/spoiler]@!, then it would display as “Awww, she’s so cute; I just want to bury my face in her breasts and go hbblblblpffft!”, with the spoiler bar in the color of the appropriate rating (red for explicit, etc.). When hovered over, it’d display a tooltip of the rating, and would reveal the text with a click.

Ideally, these could be turned off in settings if you don’t want any text rating-spoilered.

Except the new spoiler spoiler throws that out the window for people who have [Twilicorn](/tags/princess+twilight) filtered.

The only tags that have the “princess twilight sparkle” spoiler image are spoiler tags for episodes in Season 4 or later, which have a good chance of containing Alicorn Twilight anyhow, and besides which the spoiler is there for people who want to see the episodes when they air and if you’re so bothered by twilicorn that you can’t even stomach seeing a 100x100 thumbnail of her then I’m not sure why you’d want to watch new episodes anyway and why you wouldn’t just hide the tag altogether.

But that’s none of my business.

which have a good chance of containing Alicorn Twilight anyhow

And if the image contained Twilicorn, it’d be blocked by the filter. The image being a 100×100 pixel thumbnail is irrelevant; if thumbnails didn’t count, we wouldn’t have spoiler images at all!

Not to mention it’s pretty poor form to include something in a spoiler icon that is itself a spoiler.

Magical Mystery Cure aired seventeen months ago. If that were a baby, you’d no longer list its age in months. We have had an entire season of the show, twenty-six episodes, in which time Twilight has been a princess the entire time. Anyone who has watched the show anytime in the past 537 days would know this. We stop making spoiler images automatic after a single week.

Honestly, if we waited that long before we could use something in a spoiler icon, we’d have had to have waited until after Magical Mystery Cure and Equestria Girls came out to use the Future Twilight icon from It’s About Time.

Just to clarify – if I’m reading this correctly, it has been established that even textually addressing the subject in question warrants the grimdark rating for images.
If so, it seems reasonable (to me, at least – please correct me if I’m wrong here) that the same would apply to comments and any mention of the subject would go “above” any non-grimdark rating, though apparently this line of reasoning doesn’t sit too well with some people.(A bit of context)
