Reports aren’t meant to be announced are they? Anyway someone probably has reported. I mean, I’m certain that it has been reported. cough

I ask because I noticed that the former was created and is being maintained by just one person.
@thatguy
A good deal of the selection aren’t prostitution, some are just instances of the word “whore”, some are just characters having sex a lot, and then there’s Applejack in panties in what looks like a strip club and then there’s this display of astounding indecencyLooks like a private tag that’s defined by whatever the user likes to call ‘whore’, and is also pony/anthro.

The tag has been preliminarily cleaned up, and there is a forum thread talking about it’s ultimate resolution

So it turns out from private discussion that there is a lot of history behind the “portrait” tag and its arguably not very art-friendly tag dictionary definition. I’m aware that it was discussed for a very long time, and people have better things to do than rehash it. And yet the topic keeps coming back and wasting everyone’s time.
Take for example today; we have a new “bust” implication, which seems to suffer from the same sort of problem and has caused me to make a pointless thread about the Obvious Wrong Thing.
(
Apologies in advance if I do not understand the history fully, and this has already been suggested and rejected.)
Has anyone ever suggested getting rid of this tag and aliasing it to something clear and unambiguous that reflects the derpi definition more closely? Maybe “solo focus (head)” or “face framing” would do. The same with “bust”: maybe that could be “solo focus (upper body)” or “upper body framing” or something. Really I want to see:
• Something nice and clear and workable: so no more bikeshedding for you guys to deal with ;)
• Not cramming too much subjective stuff into one overloaded tag.
• A scheme that can grow organically into parallel tags to express other groupings and choices of what to frame in the picture
• Something that allows the artistic components of “portrait” to be expressed: “focus:expression”, “focus:gesture”, “focus:posture” as needed?
So, if we step back from portraiture for a minute, and in the broadest non-committal way, does it sound interesting or a good idea for the site to consider this kind of view/framing/gaze tagging? *Points over at e621 which seems to have originated “solo focus” as a thing since my time there*

Ciaran and
ArmadilloEater: yes, yes I am aware that this is a potential can of worms, please bear with me. I am really inquiring about the history of the discussion here, and wondering if we can do any better or make things so that this discussion doesn’t keep coming back and wasting your time.Apologies in advance if I do not understand the history fully, and this has already been suggested and rejected.)

Since I’m the person responsible for the poorly-timed and incomplete effort to clean up the ‘bust’, ‘headshot’, and ‘portrait’ tags that kicked everything off, I may as well weigh in here.
I like your idea. I think that, with a bit of polish, it could become a very solid implementation that makes the fewest people unhappy.

So what of images of actual portraits? Like with a frame and stuff? Tag that portrait painting?

So what exactly is the point of the ambiguous facial structure tag? Because if it’s for images where you can’t tell if it’s supposed to be human or pony I’m not sure it’s been properly applied. And might need a less ambiguous name.
It’s also tagged on images with simplified designs (basically eyes and mouth only) so the no nose tag might be better suited.
Also of note that the vast majority of that tag comes from one user.

The contents of the tag look like the criterion is “less than a very definitely defined human schnoz”. Since vast majority of the contents looks like cartoony/animesque button (human) noses but all but 14 members are also tagged “anthro” yet a whole lot look like humanizations with various pony parts in the kemonomimi pattern.
What I expected to see tagged this:
What I saw instead:

What I saw instead:
- tiny animu (human) noses
- entirely undrawn or dot-like noses
What I did NOT expect: - fully formed human noses in faces that give no other equine vibes either
Therefore I get the feeling that for a lot of these pics, it’s about tagging for personal filtering purposes either over displeasure about how “anthro” tagging is done, or due to personal nasal area preferences.

Could be. Another example might be hippo snout (maintained by one user, for one particular artist).

What is the nightmare grayity tag for? It’s another one of the mostly added by one user ones.

Wild guess: nightmare rarity with grey rather than black coat.

Well, in hindsight that seems rather obvious. :I
Don’t exactly know how necessary it is, but we do have a Pinklestia tag albeit due to different circumstances.

So apparently someone aliased the tag for Cheerilee’s sister from the comics to a toy-only G3 pony. Why was this? Do people hate IDW or just don’t know?

They are the same pony and thus had the same tag name. The IDW one will need to have any images of them changed manually.
Use a little common sense before you assume it was done out of spite.
