The act is grimdark, and potentially grotesque.
A song directly about it is semi-grimdark. The song you mentioned has a dark-at-core theme suitable for older kids to discuss (whether it’s acts of violence with readily available firearms or the eternal excuse of mental illness, it’s still a dark theme). Sure, it wraps it up in a cheery danceable melody, but it still contains that topic and it’s not exactly subtle about it. It approaches the theme from the wannabe shooter’s perspective in places, no less. It is left open to interpretation whether he actually goes through with the shooting.
Referring to
Pumped-Up Kicks? That can be safe if referring to the song in its meaning as an artefact of
your fucked-up American gunfight culture.
But, if it’s borderline, err on the side of the more restrictive rating.
safe means safe for work, and safe for kids (I would add: “in the target demographic” just to be sure).
>>999032 is crass, and borderline semi-grimdark (IMO). It’s definitely worthy of your downvotes and tag filters in the absence of any consensus agreement.
