Poison the Well will always be the best “__ the __” type of names

For me, the dumbest band names will forever belong towards hair metal and the post-punk new wave.

Post punk and new wave are separate genres, though their are post punk bands influenced by new wave and vice versa.

I’m talking about the new wave bands that have more of a punk influence in them. This is where you had bands like A Flock Of Seagulls, The Mighty Wahs, Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark, The Cars, and so on.

So, I’m going to make a list here of albums that I think are the darkest, scariest, creepiest, or have the most unsettling atmosphere.

Aw, I should’ve add Godflesh - Streetcleaner and dIsembowlment - Transcendence Into the Peripheral on my list as well.
 
Streetcleaner is such a great album.

I feel that the genres that have the most potential to be genuinely creepy tend to be Industrial (and all it’s subgenres), noise, power electronics, and black metal.

Dark Ambient counts as an industrial subgenre.
 
But yes, I love Dark Ambient.

The first Silent Hill OST was pretty dark and creepy as well.

One of the more underrated Halloween songs.
 
Not necessarily the spookiest, but that voice in the hook is fun as hell. Plus the “creepy-crawly” part.

I like hip-hop and funk myself, but having having non-rockers like LL Cool J, Rufus and Janet Jackson in there always seemed a little counterintuitive to me.

Wait, why is Todd Rundgren in there? Also, Janet, Kraftwerk, Rufus, and LL aren’t rock.

The only time that I can think of where Janet Jackson was close to being rock was her song “Black Cat” from Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814. Other than that, she’s pop, R&B and even hip hop at some points. Rufus is more soul and funk while LL Cool J is straight up rap.

Yeah, you’ll notice year after year that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has a habit of nominating artists who… aren’t rock.
 
For the record, the ones I voted for are Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks, The Zombies, Devo, and Rage Against the Machine.

Stevie Nicks in Fleetwood Mac is rock, but her as a solo artist is more pop than anything.
