Sonic Discussion

The Sega Genesis Mini is due out in a few days on the 19th. It has an impressive amount of games, (including a few third-parties, and rare/unreleased games) for a “plug-and-play” console, and it emulates Sega games perfectly.
 
“Sonic 1, 2, & Spinball are included.
 
Seriously, what’s keeping “Sonic 3 & Knuckles” from ever being rereleased? (Said games, including the lock-on technology were emulated perfectly on consoles like GameCube, & Wii)  
Rumors state, it’s possibly Michael Jackson’s bassist Bobby Buxor’s sort’ve involvement with the soundtrack, creating some legal issues with the MJ estate.
 
Sometimes, I wonder if fans kinda shot themselves in the foot, by finding out, and spreading it online of MJ’s sort’ve involvment with Sonic 3’s soundtrack, basically disabling said game from ever getting a legit/official rerelease now.  
Though, this might not be a new issue, seeing as the official PC disc release of Sonic 3 had the soundtrack edited, as well. So who knows?

Monkeys, deers, koalas and even dragons races were planned to appear in Sonic Forces. Why the others were exclused were unknow, but dragons got scrapped since, according to Namakura, they didnt know how a dragon would fit if they were to appear in Sonic.

Didn’t MJ outright tell Sega to not credit him because he hated how limited the Genesis was for music?

I don’t know if that’s true, or not, but MJ was oftentimes secretive about that kinda thing. Such as not being credited for his appearance in the Simpsons.

So guys, remember about that human villain that was a blatant “Krave the Hunter” knockoff and appeared in the last Knuckles issue? No? Not big surprise…
 

 
Well, of all the characters that returned during the Bollers Era, Hunter also returns, and with a redesign that reminds me to a DBZ character
 

 
Like, you can notice the consideration that Bollers was putting in the story when he brings the most forgotten villain we have come across the comics.

The next issue comes out this Wednesday, right?

Hunter was kinda a lame villain, so I didn’t really miss him when he was killed off. Admittedly, Bollers’ version (drawn by Jonathan Grey) does look better though, and Grey’s art style kinda made him fit in Sonic better.  
But yeah, surprisingly, him, and alot of other Archie characters were based off, or even blatantly ripped off from other comic lore. I’m surprised it didn’t get Archie in legal hot water.
 
The only blatant comic book rip-off villain I liked in Archie was Mammoth Mogul. (Who’s basically a total rip-off of DC villain Vandel Savage, right down to his orgin story being almost exactly the same, but replace the meteor that gave him intelligence/immortality with a chaos emerald.) Though, I kinda prefer him later on in Ian’s stories, as Ian did more interesting things with him.  
Like being Silver’s mentor in Silver’s alternative future. Apparently, he regrets his actions in that ruined future, and wants Silver to fix everything.
 
Interestingly, supposedly, C.H. Greenblatt, creator of the Cartoon Network show “Chowder” based the character Gazpacho’s design on Mogul. Greenblatt even has childhood fanart actually featured in an old Sonic Archie Comic issue, I hear, but I don’t know where.

He was never killed off, just trapped inside a capsule Prision called “Heaven”, that is found in Angel Island. In this ocassion, Eggman invades Angel Island during the time gap when Sonic was in space, and releases Hunter from his prision.
 
And if you want to talk about ripoffs, the whole Echidna race are just some sort of Kryptonian expies, except only females use the krypto-names.

I meant after Hunter’s return, he’s actually confirmed dead. Super Knuckles killed him.  
Yes, our beloved Knuckles actually killed somebody.
 
Some think the Dark Echidna Legion is more based on the BORG from Star Trek. (Writer Ken Penders is a huge ST fan.)

The Comics had the Echidna commit suicide only for the final member of that species to genocide them back

IDW Sonic:
 
-The comic takes about 1-2 weeks to write.  
-Flynn thinks that Bean and other obscure characters can’t be used, suspects they fall under the classic line, but is not sure. (IIRC I think something like this was confirmed in some other bumblekast.)  
-Flynn thinks that Vector should have been the leader of the resistance because knuckles is a recluse he’s not a people person or a leader. Vector has experience commanding people and being an effective leader.  
-Will sonic actually deal with the notion that he kinda messed up the planet due to Eggman leaving? Answer is keep reading.  
-Other characters can’t use other looks from other series (eg: Boom Amy)  
-Sticks the Badger is off limits too. Flynn tried to put her in the book twice, but SEGA said no. (Press F to pay respects)  
-In this case the cartoons in the comics are off limits too.  
-The Jackal Squad is dead, and off limits as well, like Infinite. (F)  
-The Avatar from Sonic Forces won’t make an appearance either, but they exist somewhere in the world…  
-Sonic Riders happened in the comic universe (I mean we did see the Babyloan Rouges in the comic so…)  
-…Money doesn’t exist in this world.  
-Whisper’s favorite food is Pound Cake.  
-Tangle likes Strawberries.
 
He’s pitched another miniseries idea about other characters. Not mentioned who it is. We’ll have to wait and see whether it’s approved or not.
 
Bonus Archie Sonic stuff:
 
-The Metal Virus arc would’ve been very different in the Archie Sonic book, but it wasn’t a fleshed out idea at that time.  
-No intention of ending the previous book, it just happened. (I thought this was a given during that time.)  
-In the old series Sally and Nicole weren’t in love yet, but there was foreshadowing to it, but the book got canned before it could take place.  
-Lost Hedgehog Tales would reveal what would’ve happened to Geoffrey. (I thought it got shelved due to legal reasons.)

continuity:
 
-Starline and Eggman are not in a relationship. Flynn says that Eggman doesn’t have a romantic bone in his body.
 
-Knuckles eats his spinach. Cream, Mighty, Tails and Eggman do (The latter eats anything). Sonic and Amy do not. Charmy will not eat it without a fight. Vector does not. Espio Does. Tangle and Whisper don’t either.
 
-No Sonadow is permitted. Flynn doesn’t even get it. He will let people interpret these two characters arguing over letting someone live as romantically as they see fit. But he doesn’t get it. To him he doesn’t seem like there are any characters that spring to mind immediately that would would work in a LGBTQ relationship. Flynn is weary of the shipping wars and weary of them being pigeon holed into characters dating. He’s not avoiding and isn’t opposed to it, he’s just sick and tired of romantic relationships.
 
-No immediate plans for more Tangle and Whisper. Doesn’t want them to be a team. Doesn’t want them to be permanently attached. More miniseries about other characters have been pitched. Fan Reception plays a big part.
 
-Anthro life expectancies roughly the same as human’s.

Interesting, though some of those are rather odd. I never thought anyone would assume anything of Eggman & Starline. (Not very keen on SalNicole either frankly.) Though, there are oddly rumors Tangle is “gay” for Blaze, but this deconfirms it. (Though, I never understood where that started from either.)
 
I was actually arguing with some people on DA recently about why the SatA.M. characters aren’t in IDW, so it’s nice to see I was right, but if I try to tell them, they’ll just tell me “Ian can’t be trusted.” (So what yiu ganna do?)  
Shame Sticks, and the other “classic era” characters are off limits. I mean I can kinda understand Sega not wanting the SatA.M. characters, & Sticks, (those shows are over, or possibly legal reasons) but Why does Sega want us to forget characters like Bean, Mighty, Ray, Nack, ect. don’t exist, after allowing Archie to liberally use them for decades? (Heck, they even allowed scrapped character, Honey the cat in Archie too, before it’s cancellation.)
 
Sorry to rant, I just feel it’s a bummer the IDW series is limited to only new characters, and “modern” game characters, it really limits the series, and makes it hard for me to get into.

I hate to sound, “stuck in the past,” but even with the modern ones, (Sonic, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, ect.) I prefered how they were written in Archie. I remember when fans were actually wanting IDW to take the comic series from Archie, I tried telling them, in order for that to happen, they’d have to cancel the Archie series, get rid of many characters, start a new canon, and probably get more mandates, and I feel like my fears unfortunately came true…
 
Oddly, Sally-fans are accusing Tangle, and IDW Amy of being “rip-offs of Sally,” but I don’t really see it with them.  
It’s also ironic people are complaining about Amy being “more competent,” considering they hated how goofy/tempermental she’s been portrayed in stuff like “Sonic X.” (And granted, despite her goofiness, she was still at times competent in the Sonic Adventure & Heroes games.)

In fairness, I do want to give the IDW series a shot, (I haven’t read one full issue, so I don’t wanna judge it too much on just a few pages, and such) but I honestly can’t find it anywhere.  
Archie Sonic was much easier to find, and offered subscriptions, at least. So honestly they do some things better then IDW.

Another thing that’d be nice to catch up on IDW would be if they did more book reprints/collections like Archie did, (such as the Sonic Archives, Sonic Selects, Sonic Universe reprints, and Sonic Digest books) though from looking at IDW’s TMNT collection books, and such, alot of ‘em are very expensive compared to Archie’s.
