Does look pretty good, and improved (though, honestly I had nothing against the more realistic limbs) but I still doubt the movie will be as well received as “Detective Pikachu.”

While I admit that was a really good movie, (possibly one of the the best licensed video game movies) I really got sick of people online trying to constantly compare both movies, or try to make them compete somehow. Even major websites tried to do that. Which is odd, considering both movies’ release dates, (even the original Sonic November release date, which is now pushed back to February) are very far apart, so they’re not competing at all.

Also, apparently Yuji Naka (former head of Sonic Team) is thanking fans for getting the design changed.

I noticed that fandoms have an annoying tendency to do that recently Force 2 movies at war against each other if they have any connection with each other (remember when people were putting the MLP movie and Teen Titans against each other? I haven’t seen Titans but I can tell it’s a completely different movie)

That’s odd, I thought most people hated TTG? Though, even TTG haters admit the movie was surprisingly good.

But yeah, that competitive fanboyism is annoying. Heck, I still see Sega fans whom bash Mario/Nintendo, and vice-versa, forgetting the so-called “Sega VS Nintendo” wars ended decades ago, and both companies are practically friends.

I was talking about go to the movies. the only connection it has with MLP was just being a movie based on a TV show.
the sonic and Pokémon the only thing they are competing at is just being the better movie. which at the end of the day means pretty much nothing

I’ll say it straight: the fact that they fixed Sonic’s design for the Movie doesn’t mean that the Movie will be good now, because they still fucked up the lore of the series. The reason Detective Pikachu had a discrete success between the fans, and it’s also regarded as one of the few movies inspired by a videogame, it’s because that other than making honest transpositions of the Pokemon’s designes in a live action context, it also preserved the entire lore of the series. The Movie is settled in a city never seen before, but the universe is exactly the one that fans know. With Sonic instead… it’s totally messed up: it’s simply Sonic in our world, and has to save it. There is a co-protagonist that isn’t even part of the franchise. No Tails, no Knuckles, none of the other characters of the series we all know. It’s just not Sonic. All we have is just the protagonist, now with the design he was always supposed to have since the beginning. The movie will still suck, no matter how they improve Sonic’s design…

In fairness, there isn’t one single “lore” in the Sonic series, there’s always been many different canons, interpretations of the characters/stories, and such throughout the many different Sonic games, cartoons, and comics.
In order to make the movie screen frendly they have to take some liberties. (But not too many.) They can’t just make a movie about collecting rings, fighting robots, and such.

Detective Pikachu took some liberties, as well. The human characters, and city are much different from the Detective Pikachu video game, and a bit more realistic.

You’re forgetting Dr. Robotnik is in the movie too, and while he may not look like him at first, they’re going the “Gotham” route where this basically shows how becomes the Doc’, and gets his trademark mustache, and such later, which I think is interesting.
Also, the teaser did apparently show Mushroom Hill Zone, so we might get cameos, or appearances of other Sonic characters, or maybe they feel it’s best to focus on Sonic & Robotnik for the first movie. (If a sequel is planned.)

I doubt the movie will be amazing, or as good as “Detective Pikachu,” as well. (even my sister whom hates Pokémon loved it) And I tire of that “token human side main character for the audience to relate to” trope. (Which “Sonic X” already did.)
Regardless, it at least still looks entertaining possibly, and still has the basic humor style, and fast paced action that’s still true to the Sonic franchise.

Buuuut… people make a good point on something: if we manage to make the movie to be successful at the box-office, we might prove to the world that the vox-populi actually matters. The design was changed because people hated the previous one, and the creators actually listened and fixed it. Maybe this is what we need to convince other developer and producers to listen to fans…

Possibly, it might be good if they start listening to fans, or criticisms. Though sometimes constantly catering to popular-opinion, or pandering to the fanbase isn’t always the way to go, as some fans are fickle, or have odd ideas about what’s “best” for the series.

I saw a guy on DA make a list on how to “improve” the Sonic franchise. Pretty much everything he listed would ironically upset most fans. (Which included things like combine Amy & Sally into one character, kill off Dr. Eggman, and such…)

Well, the IDW comics kinda mixed Amy with Sally, with Amy still Amy, but having a superior leadership characterization similar to Sally Acorn.

Killing off Dr. Eggman? Hmmmm… Maybe? If that is handled and implemented well, it can work. That would not be permanent thought. That worked on Sonic Heroes (If we remove Eggman entirely, there will be no difference)

Some Sally-fans got angry about that, and accused IDW-Amy & Tangle of ripping off Sally… (Which I don’t get, ‘cause Tangle doesn’t look like her.)

I think killing off Eggman permanently would be a bad idea though, as fans would miss him, it’d be like permanently get rid of the Joker, or Shredder, or something. Ken Penders actually wanted to do that, (with Endgame) partly ‘cause he thought the series wouldn’t last much longer, and wanted some closure, or because rumor has it, he wanted to replace Eggman with a new human villain OC of his.

Ken supposedly did a deal with Sega that if he could kill off Robotnik in “Endgame,” he’d bring him back if the series lasted another 25 issues. This is why he came back, though as Robo-Robotnik, (and eventually Eggman) 25 issues later.

Of course the Sally fans will be angry. Any crazy fan that supports Archie will think that IDW suck, its a ripoff, its terrible, Ian is bad, Its not serious like Archie, etc.
Does that surprises anybody today?

And the case of killing Eggman, like I said, will not be permanent. Heck, killing him will not be necessary, more like, putting him aside and let other villains to have more spotlight. This can work with one or two games, as an experiment.

You say its the same like the Joker or Shredder, that they cannot be replaced because they are the main antagonists, but damn, how many villains Batman and the TMNT have fought besides those two? Batman fought the scarecrow in the last Arkaham game, not Joker. Batman fought Bane in the last Dark Knight movie, not Joker. When Shredder is not there, the Turtles fight Krang. Heck, that CGI movie of 2007 used brand new villains and no one complained.

And I am talking about the videogames, not the comic. I feel it could be something fresh and new if Sonic fights brand new villains not related to Eggman, so they could have more attention and depth. This is what I liked in Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Heroes.

And the rumors about the replacement could be probably true. I mean, I would not be suprised if that turns real.

I’m an Archie & Sally fan, but I admit there are fanatics out there. There are IDW fanatics too actually, whom bash Archie, or other canons, and characters basically acting no better.

Yeah, the Archie series occasionally took breaks from Eggman, so I understand. Though, in the game canon, & IDW there aren’t very many other villains to use.
I’m fine with using other villains, or creating new ones, (heck, I liked Naugus, Mammoth Mogul, Dr. Finitevus, and such from the old Archie canon, and I liked the Deadly Six, and such too) but in the end Eggman will always be the main classic villain, much like Shredder, and Joker. (That said I love other Batman & TMNT villains too.)

I wouldn’t mind some occasional new villains, but unfortunately, new villains don’t always go over well with most Sonic fans. “Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric’s” gameplay issues aside, nobody seems to like the new villain Lyric, and many just write him off as a generic, boring, villain. Though, personally, I like his design, (and the Sonic games have very few animal villains nowadays) and I feel he had promise.
I actually enjoyed the Deadly Six in “Sonic Lost World,” but similarly hardly anyone likes them.
Even when Shadow & Silver were antagonists, fans were divided on them.
The only villain besides Eggman fans like seems to be Metal Sonic, but even then alot of fans didn’t like his “Metal Overlord” persona in “Sonic Heroes,” or having him talk. (Personally, I kinda liked his Heroes voice.)

Fans seem to accept the Hard Boiled Heavies, (Sonic Mania) but hardly ever talk or care about them either. They’re more like a quirky miniboss squad then villains though.

I don’t like how the Classic Sonic was previously defined as the Sonic from the past (In Generations) and now he’s called like if he comes from a completely different dimention (in Forces). Honestly it’s a pure retconn of a previous game, and I prefer to believe Forces never happened.

Tell me when Sonic fans will be satisfaced? There will be always people that will hate and complain the most minimal changes, or no changes at all.

Lyric was hated because he was a poorly written, like the entire game.

Like I said, it needs to be implemented well.

Tell me about it… I’m well aware how unpleaseable this fanbase is… As I said, some bashed the critically-acclaimed “Sonic Mania” for being “too retro,” and such.

Unfortunately, writing & story is not a huge priority for Sega & Sonic Team.
Not saying the writing for the older games was always perfect either, nor story is more important then gameplay, but it could be better.
Though, the humor isn’t bad sometimes. Like Eggman’s loudspeaker announcements in “Sonic Colors.” (Then of course, we get fans whom insist Sonic should never be funny, and only be dark/serious. Though, admittedly, they do need to balance the humor and serious moments better in newer games.)

I still think Lyric had a nice design, and some promise, (he was practically one of the few serious characters in Boom) at least. Shame he isn’t allowed in the IDW comics, ’cause they might be able to make him a better villain. (Sega forbids Boom characters.)

I still can’t believe that Sonic’s inability to swim was all caused by a mere misaknowledgment of his creator (hedgehogs can swim well in nature, his creator thought they couldn’t)…
