I’ve been thinking this for a long time as well.
Once Spike grows a little, its my headcanon that he can start helping Twi in combat.
I mean, imagine Twilight standing on giant Spike’s head and shooting a charged magic beam while Spike fires a large fireblast which combines with the beam and both transform into a massive blast of magical flames.

…Now I know this would never get used against someone in the show, but maybe they can do it to destroy some powerful barrier or something like that. One can dream, right?
