You mean the blue whale? Those were Russians, 4chan merely basked on the lulz. They are guilty of “triggering people to suicide” thou. on a side note 100% of live suicide attempts in a thread fails despite all the cheers and encouragements.

Aaand I’ll have to agree that in terms of malicious intent the hacker 4chan does indeed have a major upper hand.

The point here, is that both 4chan and Tumblr harbor some terrible people, and some nice people, and depending on where you go or who you follow, you are liable to see more or less of either.

By “DDOS tumblr” do you mean fill the “steven universe” “feminism” and “vegan” tags with CP, darkweb gore videos, and animal abuse then yeah they sure as hell did. 4chan is one of the most sickening websites I’ve ever encountered. Just like any website, there is good and bad, but 4chan is a nasty one and it lives up to its reputation. Remember the suicide mobs? When they mobbed kids on youtube until they killed themselves as a game?

Also, what you see on Tumblr depends ENTIRELY on who you follow. I have a science blog, I follow other science blogs, and blogs of friends, I don’t often come across the “screaming SJWs”. Most i’ve seen is a few LGBT support blogs and of course, the screenshots people on reddit post so they can circle-jerk over them

Tumblr, harmless. Do you even Zamii?

Also, 4chan users have some pretty impressive achievements like starting this fandom, tracking ISIS rats and having Russia nuke them, making a nation afraid of Pep the Frog, feeding wiki leaks, DDOS the FBI website, DDOS tumblr and tracking a guy’s flag in less than 24h based solely in a still video (multiple times). That is just to name a few out the top of my head.

Tumblerinas… well they cry very loud and backslash each other, that sure is impressive in it’s own way.
Meso Echo

So you either have tumblr, full of harmless teens who want to express their opinion and what they stand for, good or bad.

Then you have 4chan, full of MRA neckbeards, doxxers, and the fact that they’ve gotten in trouble for CP should say enough about them.

I’d honestly choose the former :P

First they came for the n-word, and I did not speak out–because some of my best friends are black.
Then they came for the f-word, and I did not speak out–because Neil Patrick Harris is an American institution.
Then they came for the c-word, and I did not speak out–because my own mother is a woman (or so I’m told).
Then they came for the k-word, and there was no one left to speak for me.

It’s an old, time-tested tactic. They start with something they hate or find inconvenient, like the concept of being considerate of others, and then create their own version which as evil, monstrous, and inhuman as they can make it. Then, they repeatedly and persistently reference their imaginary enemy whenever their actual target shows itself, in hopes that whenever people see them they’ll think of the hateful stereotype they built up.

SJWs are all following the time tested pogrom;
First, marginalize, “Don’t use that term to refer to them, it’s offensive, or that one either! Better yet, just don’t mention them, it upsets me!”

Then, criminalize, “Why don’t they try to fit in? All they do is crime and drugs, and expect me to support them!”

And then… start the camps. “It’s for their own good, they’re better off with their own kind!”

And finally, start the ovens. “Oh, it’ll be a much nicer World when everyone’s like us!”

“I like offending people, because I think people who get offended should be offended.” - Linus Torvalds

The only time being offended is justified, is when it disparages your character. Aside that, grow up. You’re an adult, deal with.

Logically, yes, free speech and free thought include the right to say and think things like “that’s offensive” and “that is harmful and shouldn’t be done”. The point of free speech is to consider various viewpoints so people can know how things really are.

Unfortunately, some people treat it less like a moral principle with actual value, and more like an inconvenient yet exploitable dogma. Despite their claims, they don’t restrict from lashing out at speech they find offensive or ideas they find inconvenient, but they usually attack it with verbal abuse, stalking, shaming, and other loopholes which can be hide under the canopy of “freedom”; essentially, you’re “free” to break their personal laws but they’re free to punish you for it anyway, in the hopes of restricting your actions. But if others question their words and actions, then when they can’t defend them logically they just say “I’m free to do it, end of discussion!”; it’s ironic that a moral principle called “free speech” is used to prevent discussion rather than permit it.

But wouldn’t you have a right to be offended? If you had no right to be offended then that wouldn’t be “freedom” O.o

Like… im DEFINITELY not saying there should be laws against hate speech or other typically “offensive” things. That would be unconstitutional. But it should just be common decency to be kind to others.
Right now it seems as though people find it offensive when people get offended which is just… so confusing.
Background Pony #A155
@CrabApple
Ironically, in some circles that concept alone would be considered so offensive that it’s practically an act of war. Because the idea that speech might be bad or harmful is a violation of “freedom”, as paradoxical as that is.

Its kindof a matter of “can you say offensive things to people? yes! yes you can. Will people get offended and think you’re a dick? yes. yes they will” Like yeah be offensive, but dont be surprised when people get offended!
