Timber’s more cliche than flash
Dude, there’s nothing unique in timbertwi, flashlight is way better
no but you at hiting on some one if you use the phrase and I quote
“you know why that tent is the best”
“no why”
“cause our in it”
mix that with his attitude and that cheeky look he was giving her and you tell me what’s going on if he wasn’t flirting
So does that mean Harry Potter is a self insert character because he’s courageous and curious but has a higher calling and a destiny? No. Literally any character could be a “self insert OC” with how you’re viewing him.
He was only talking to her about the camp and the differences between rubies and sapphires? Does that mean every time I have a conversation with my coworkers about Fallout 4 and other video games, I’m hitting on them? That’s ridiculous. They had a conversation, one that shows their interests and intelligence, so they like each other.
the way you just describe him is like a self insert oc character in a bad fanfic. flash may have the personality of plain yogurt but at less he doesn’t come off as a d-bag, especially since he started to hit on a girl that he never met before.
But as Bronies, it’s kind of mandatory that we dig when giving characters personality, no matter how much of a blank slate they are, which I showcased in an earlier comment.
I mean, we come from a fandom where we take a character that sits differently and make her into a human obsessed nut, a character with an animation error on her eyes and make her into a muffin obsessed ditz, a DJ that had less than two seconds of screentime and make her a party animal that’s dating that one mare from the gala episode, or that one gaming colt that had a two second cameo and make him Sweetie Belle’s love interest.
And if there’s anything the 100 episode shows us, it’s that the fandom matters to the show enough to bring certain elements like that into light. So it’s not impossible for them to give Flash more character.
Except Twilight and Timber have believable chemistry. They actually talked about a shared interested rather than bump into each other and awkwardly say hellos. Please show any indication that Flash and Twilight had a meaningful conversation where the two bounced off each other with believable chemistry. You’d be hard pressed to find one with any sort of depth or character. But with Twi and Timber, the both have clear personality and interests while Flash comes off as a clean slate on the surface.
Timber’s clearly intelligent and charismatic, a leader who is unafraid of speaking his mind. You get that in the first minute meeting him, but you have to dig to find any semblance of character for Flash.
I don’t take it as hate, I just find it really hypocritical that everyone’s saying this relationship is better while taking potshots at Flash despite them doing the exact same thing: Chat, flirt, and leave her blushing.
Heck, they would’ve reacted the exact same way had Timber and Flash’s roles been reversed. That fact is that they just want an excuse to hate Flash more, even if it’s by picking someone else who’s done the same thing, as long as they have a way to make Flash suffer, they’ll take it no matter how hypocritical it is.
Then problem is, ypu could take Flash out of the series entirely and it would make little to no difference. Hell, maybe even bettered it. He’s the clichéd “bad boy with a good heart but nervous with girls” kinda guy that was made to be likable but failed spectacularly.
Don’t take it as hate, I don’t much care for Flash either way.
To be fair, Flash DOES have several character traits that make for an interesting personality, heck I could bring up some good info right now:
Flash has a sense of justice as he went to clear Twilight’s name when Sunset framed her.
He dumped Sunset despite everyone in the school being afraid of her so he clearly wasn’t afraid of a bully.
He’s a gentleman, a bit of a music nerd and a clutz.
He has a few character flaws like him not being able to cook (if Friendship Games is any indication), having a bit of an ego when it comes to his music (Banner Day is a good example of that).
He’s apparently good friends with Lyra and Bonbon.
Was considered smart/athletic enough to be picked for the Friendship Games.
And here’s an interesting thought: If he’s a Royal Guard in the pony world, that could be carried over to his human counterpart in the form of him wanting to be a police officer.
Granted, that last part is speculation at best. But you get what I’m saying, these are several facts about his character that can be used to make him interesting, all simply because I explored ALL possibilities for his character, not just the ones I WANTED to.
shrug
Because it’s a tired old cliche and feels shoehorned in for no real reason?
Its not obligatory. Twilight thought he was cute, then they interacted and begin to like each other. It’s believeable.
We do has Soarin– oh wait. Well, this is a girl’s show. Ah, maybe one day.
I just don’t see why the show needs the obligatory romantic interest. Why can’t we have a significant male character who isn’t an authority figure, a villain, or solely there to be a romance option?
On top of which the whole love-at-first-sight teen romance thing is just meh.
Twi and Flash had… awkward conversations that went nowhere, and no chemistry whatsoever.
I cannot see why people think he’s as bad as Flash, when he truly isn’t. And what’s wrong with possible romantic interests?
Tho I also asked him to do a Gloriosa/Sentry piece….
Heh flash apologists at their best.
