I’m guessing that kinda thing has always been around. Like nerds argue over which version of Batman is best, whether the silver age was best, and such. That “they changed it, so it suxorz” nerdy attitude has probably always been around before Sonic.
Heck, before the Sanik green eyes drama, I remember some hating on the 2003 TMNT show for not being like the original show, and nowadays I see some hate on the original more comical show, or the new Nick show for not being as dark/serious as the 2003 show. (Granted, they haven’t seen some of the darker moments in the new show, which are just as dark as the 2003 one. Some of it, I’m surprised got away with on Nick.)
If it weren’t for that drama, DmC Devil May Cry, the new Power Rangers Movie, Equestria Girls, Pokemon The Series Sun and Moon, Sonic Boom, the upcoming Ben 10 reboot wouldn’t be getting hate solely for its character design.
I wonder when will the hate towards this and many future generations end? Judging from critics who objectively criticize things in media today, especially shows for today’s kids, it will sadly never end.

I haven’t seen that one yet, but Netflx has had some successful reboots/new versions of beloved shows. I can’t wait for their new MST3K.
Yeah, but I have seen more positivity over the “Boom” show then the “Rise of Lyric” game.
And eh don’t get me started on that “Mariotehplumber” guy… Granted it wasn’t just him, I’ve seen others like him too. Like the notorious Nicochi/EpicKnightofJustice guy, and his buddy Richard Kuta whom helped start that “green eyes in Sonic 4” controversy/drama, I recall… Before that, I never saw anyone ever complain about Sonic’s green eyes. (And he’s had them many years prior to StH4.)

What about Voltron? It got a reboot series that has an anime style from the same people behind Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra and it is streaming on Netflix. It was well received too because of the writing and animation. Just like MLP and TMNT.
Also, Sonic Boom gets hate because of character designs (let alone Knuckles’ design), which it’s the same excuse with Ben 10 2017 and Pokemon Sun & Moon. And for that I blame Mariotehplumber for making character designs important for critiques and making it as an excuse to criticize and dislike the show.
Also, TTG isn’t a reboot, just a mediocre spinoff of what people find better.
Regardless, as I said the new versions of MLP & TMNT have been pretty well received. So there’s some love this generation.
Some reboots just don’t always work.
Y’know, “Sonic Boom” (the TV show) isn’t bad either. Eggman steals the show, even though he’s not a serious villain in it.
(Metal Sonic was surprisingly quite serious/threatening in it though.)
That’s why i think this generation is being demonized.
Agreed, oddly some think kids can’t handle a li’l edge in their own shows/movies, even though stuff like Disney have some edge. (Even old Mickey cartoons have edgy moments, and Mickey was kinda a likeable A-hole in them sometimes.)
I think part of the reason MLP:FiM has gotten so popular is because it’s edgier then previous versions of MLP, which balance it’s cuteness, but it’s not quite “SpongeBob” levels of edgy/crazyness, and doesn’t seem to lose it’s innocence/cuteness, as it balances it more. There’s not really any other kid/family shows like that as most go either too overboard with the fluff, or edge.
I think part of the reason “Teen Titans Go” gets a bad rep’, because it’s more mean-spirited meta humor some feel. As for PPG, it probably just lacks the same style the original show had, so “children of the ‘90s” don’t feel it’s quite the same.
I think a balance of dark and mature is the key to making adult stuff, as well for stuff aimed at an younger audiences as well.
I guess people today want everything to be for kids to be good. Which it’s not always the case, considering that today, this generation gets demonized because of shows like Teen Titans Go!, and the newest versions of the Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10. Which they get a lot of hate.
If they don’t, how can an animated show for adults tend to succeed without being too edgy?
I think the problem with most “adult” animated shows is perhaps they’re trying too hard at being edgy/vulgar for laughs, and as a result are becoming more “immature” or “disgusting” as a result. (I mean I like some raunchy humor like Superjail, but most others are emulating each other too much, so people might be getting burnt out on it.)
Ironically, older ones like classic “Simpsons” episodes & “Beavis & Butthead” that were popular, but used to catch flack in the media for being “too edgy” are very tame by today’s standards.
Didn’t know it was a parody of how the fandom is.
But you have a point. The only adult oriented versions of kids shows that has done well were Osomatsu-san and Kamen Rider Amazons. While Bayformers and Combiner Wars were disliked by many people.
And shows like Ren and Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon getting hate (as well as othwr adult animation shows like Family Guy and The Nutshack) is why I am concerned that adult animation might die sooner or later and the only adult animation shows that will keep it alive are Rick and Morty, Archer and BoJack Horseman.
I don’t think this was meant as a complaint, more as just a harmless parody.
But yeah, they have had official “adult/teen” versions of many things, which has had both bad, or good results. (“Ren & Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon” being a “bad” example, as many found it too gross.)
Interestingly, some like Ninja Turtles started out as rather unfriendly for kids. The original TMNT comics were VERY violent.
Still they should not ignore that franchises like Transformers and Power Rangers (like My Little Pony) were still made for kids (while being okay with PG-13 films or spin-offs) while whining about pony porn and such.
It’s not about the rating, but if the product is legitimately good or not. Nostalgia can only go so far.
Also they ignore the fact that Osomatsu-kun was for kids (or better said, a Shonen demographic) when Osomatsu-san was made for an older audience and it had a fanbase, mostly of girls.
Why complain about fans making a PG-13/R My Little Pony incarnation separate from the official canon made for kids and families, and yet you let Transformers, GI Joe, Marvel, DC, Power Rangers, Super Sentai, Kamen Rider and Osomatsu slide with mature audienced incarnations without realizing that they were for kids originally?

I think it has to do with (last I checked) Flutters being the second most popular of the Mane Six.
There could be many reasons:
There could be more possibilities
that’s why i’m asking, it’s the same for all of them, some even more than fluttershy. it’s a rather random choice for the comic
Because some lust over Fluttershy in a Safe or Not so Safe Manner.
Also: Maybe Shipfics with Fluttershy and their own OCs.
why fluttershy, then?
I guess those are some Shipfics
