A setting for the fic that I need to write this November is that Equestria is Earth several million years in the future after humans went extinct. It would explain why there are so many Equestrian objects that aren’t designed for hooves in the show.

Hmm.
I care about humanity. It better not die off. There’s no guarantee anyone else looks up at the night sky and wonders, or ever would.
If only human civilization dies off, there may be a chance for equines to become the next dominant species.
Eh, I’m more concerned with the long-term survival of humanity. Ponies will never happen if we’re stupid and kill ourselves off or more likely just stagnate and decay into ruin and/or another dark ages. To that end, I want to poke at breakthrough space propulsion concepts.
Some CRISPR research to create pegasi and selective horse breeding for compact size (for easier flight) and intelligence.
Well, time to continue my fanatical pursuit of science to fill the gaping hole that shall soon be in my heart.
