Yeah i realized that a little later when i thought that everyone would recognize her if she were her young self.
Also it really looks like filly especially on a later panel.

Also, so are the comic staff, they even request fans to stop trying to send them story ideas, and such. >>451952 “We do not want (and cannot have) it’s influence on our books.” So spare me the “IDW is ripping off fanfics” paranoia.
In fact, I read said fanfic before, this comic is actually quite different. In fact, I’ll give IDW some kudos by being a bit more original with Celestia’s disguise.

It’s not her as a filly, it’s just a disguise.
Also, Fosgitt draws kinda chibi-fied so it’s actually an adult pony.
I dunno why but i like this “ugly-cute” filly of Celestia. I think the fact it draws away from what the fans had a concrete thought about her filly appearance makes it all the more interesting.
Show writers aren’t allowed to read fanfiction. And frankly IDW is nothing but publicized fanfiction.
I’m pretty sure it’s a coincidence though. (Seeing how writers are forbidden to read fanfics, and don’t want influence from them.) It’s not exactly a unique plot.
Y’know, I like how “plain pony Celestia” is kinda adorkable, and “ugly-cute.” :)
Say what you want about Fosgitt, but he makes some unique character designs.
