Description

Per the art book, Scorpan was scripted in an early storyboard, Storm King stealing the staff from him w/ Tempest Shadow’s help, but this was dropped in the final script.

I agreed that the original version shows who’s the original owner of the Staff of Sacanas. But that didn’t make it into the final film. In the final film, Scorpan wasn’t the original owner of the staff before the Storm King steals it. The origin of the staff is unknown. And do you know why?  
The Storm King: The staff… belongs… to me!  
That’s right because I think the staff does originally belong to the Storm King. We don’t know if Scorpan is still alive or dead.

Random Idea: Discord and the Storm King both hail from the same ‘distant land’ as Tirek and Scorpan. And that Scorpan became king of the land after Tirek was sent to Tatarus.

Unless someone else comes up with something even better, I’ll choose to believe that “stealing the staff from Scorpan” remains a key part of the Storm King’s secret untold origin story (because seriously, that would make for GREAT continuity).

Technically it’s not confirmed to be 100% dropped. They removed it from the opening scene yes, but there’s still the possibility it was moved to a later scene as a flashback in some form.
 
The “Great Princess Caper” book actually alludes to Tempest stealing the staff prior to invading Equestria.

it would be pretty neat to have more gen1 characters (that arent ponies, cuz we got enough of em returning already - at least partially) returning. i personally think he could become friends with the mane 6.  
no tirek redemption arc though. He Deserved It.

Since 2014, I’ve been waiting for Scorpan to appear in the series. Something about him in this movie doesn’t fit well, and that may be the reason they dropped him in the final script. Still, this gives me hope to see him appear in later seasons.

Still not sure exactly what problem you have with him. “not the boy I envisioned” doesn’t impart any insight. They are not concerned with making the characters beautiful/attractive if that’s your concern, he is a gargoyle after all. The only time we saw him previously was in an abstract “storybook” style flashback unless you count the comic, in which case he was a lot younger and obviously due for change as he grew up.
