Because Spike is the Everyman; we can relate to him the most because all too often he’s the sanest voice in the room, so it’s easy to project and ship him with others.

Agreed. Hopefully some that aren’t rooted in dangerous clashes.
Spike+Ember+Thorax is second best three way ship, only behind Trixie+Maud+Starlight.
