I’d guess that’s for aesthetic reasons.
See, changeling eyes are weird like that with their ambiguous “pupils”. Sometimes looks like a shiny reflective spot.
Also, I just noticed that Thorax’s eyes changed colors but Pharynx’s didn’t.

And it’s the doll-playing Thorax as well.
True, which would actually say a lot about Pharynx’s personality, how he was able to choose a sibling out of potential hundreds and care about just that one.

It could also be that Pharynx and Thorax see themselves as siblings more than most other changelings. Just because they all came from the same batch doesn’t mean they see each other as anything more than competition or another changeling,
Perhaps he is indicating they were from the same batch of hatchlings. Every changeling in the hive is related, but they are all born at different times.
