Background Pony Number 17
My Little Pony - 1992 Edition

Two thoughts:

  1. Why am I not surprised that Spike learned about “the birds and the bees” by looking it up in the library?

  2. Judging from his rather…analytical…description of the reference material, he really IS still a baby dragon, even if intellectually he’s a match for most adult ponies.

Okay, third thought: Spike is simply adorable in panels 3 & 4.
Background Pony #11B4
Eventually, Twilight is going to start dating. When it gets to the point where it is as serious as Starlight thinks it is, Spike will have to deal with having another pony—this time a stallion—who is more important in Twilight’s life than him. I think that it is very natural for a kid to want to figure out what would make that happen (hence his natural curiosity about that topic) and to seek another pony to “fill the gap” when he becomes less important in Twilight’s life.
