You’re right. I’m sorry. I forgot that sea horses were not like other Syngnathidae, such as sea dragons and pipefish, where the female simply lays eggs on the male’s stomach.

Seahorses actually do. The males have a broodpouch that the female lays eggs in :D

You might want to check. Last time I looked (about 10 seconds ago, to be sure), female seahorses have an ovipositor.
Sea horses don’t have those.

My thought would be it is a trait from seahorses?
What species does the ovipositor come from, though? That’s definitely neither an equine nor piscine trait, and, while they are not my area of expertise, I’m pretty sure platyhelminthes also lack them as well.

My headcanon is that sirens are like those penis fencing sea worms that fight with their junk and the loser gets impregnated, so naturally they got busy with the pillars who they managed to defeat.
