"Army" is a branch of what is called the "Military". So if you're Grandpa told you he served in the Army, then the Army is the branch of Military he served in.


 
There are four main Branches of Military:
 
Army
 
Navy
 
Marines
 
Air Force


 
And these four branches of military have sub-branches like the National Gaurd and Coast Gaurd.
