Goku only spared Vegeta when he was a villain because he wanted a rematch later. He outright admitted it was a selfish desire when he had Krillin not kill him. If you remember it as being “but Piccolo changed, give him a chance too,” that’s because the original English dub changed it. Twilight isn’t Goku, so I don’t think she’d risk it.
 
It wasn’t because Goku thought he could change. He just got lucky that Vegeta ended up changing (and even then, his pride really was a dumpster fire on multiple occasions, underestimating Frieza, Cell, Buu…).
 
I’d say Frieza is a character far more similar to Chrysalis, because no matter how many times you beat her ego down, she’ll be rotten to the core, out of extremely stubborn pride, as far as they’ve been portrayed. (Except I’m not even sure Chrysalis can have any respect for her worst enemies)
 
As for the Vegeta analogue of sorts, I’d say Discord is slightly similar, in that his pride has caused trouble in the course of his redemption arc, took him like six seasons for it to probably sink in that he isn’t really that invincible.
 
In any case, MLP and DBZ are different franchises, and have notably different standards for its villains, regarding actions that happened and the scale for irredeemability.

It’s interesting you mention Dragon Ball Z considering that at the end of the Saiyan Saga, Vegeta swore he would return after being spared and kill everyone… but he would eventually be redeemed. Doesn’t that sound just like the “irredeemable” Chrysalis?

Yeah, you’re kinda right on that one, I must admit.
 
The thought of whitewashing despite all authorial intent (a tweet from the guy who wrote this episode, from months ago) has kinda bugged me.
 
Yeah, I’ve possibly been a hypocrite on prior occasions, with different shows and characters, but here, in this case, people seem to be in denial that a character is being portrayed as outright irredeemable, and probably immutably so in canon.
 
Do I need a chill pill? Possibly.
 
It’s kind of like pretending you can redeem say, Cell from DBZ, going “but he just wanted to fight strong guys,” or something like that, when that’s… kinda glossing over the special kind of depraved he was.

I wonder what Pencils’ stance on the trio is? Remember he works for IDW, so he can probably make a story that reforms them if he wanted (and the old IDW backstory was made before he was working for IDW).
