Is it wrong that I find older Rarity here more attractive than her younger counterpart?

I’ve always viewed Dash as the youngest—the child prodigy who is now barely a legal adult at the start of S1. I can agree with your evidence that Fluttershy is on the older side and AJ does look young. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that we put more effort into this conversation than the writers did into deciding on their exact relative ages.

Well, judging by what we know - Fluttershy is a year old then Pinkie, Pinkie and Rarity I would guess are around the same age, then I think Rainbow Dash followed by Twilight and Applejack.
 
Why I say this - Fluttershy is clearly the oldest going by her looks in the cutie mark chronicles episode and she’s a year older then Pinkie according to Gryphon the Brush Off. Then you have Rarity who was shown to be in the same class as Muffins going by the kart race episode. We know Rainbow is younger than Rarity because in the Parental Glideance episode we see that Muffins is part of the older age bracket of racing (she got to participate early going by her). Twilight was magical kindergarten age. AJ just flat out looks the youngest.

If it weren’t for their origin story that shows all the M6 being quite close in age (what with the simultaneous appearances of their CMs and all), I’d say that Rarity is significantly older than the rest of the M6. Even back in S1, she’s been the most established pony of the six of them (plus it’s my headcanon that Rarity is Sweetie Belle’s mum and they pretend to be sisters to keep up appearances).
 
Now that you mention that Twilight is the only other pony who can stress out as hard as Rarity, perhaps that’s a common unicorn trait.

Nah, Rarity’s never been about fake beauty but accenting her current looks. She’d freak at first about seeing the grey and then proceed to own it like the boss she is.

You’d think that Rarity would use mane & tail dye to hide that fact.

I’m not surprised - other than Twilight and she got a better handle on it - Rarity is the one who stressed herself out the most.

Can’t believe that Rarity is the first to get a grey mane (or that she’s the only one not to use gallons of mane dye every day)
