I think streaming services and shows going straight to those services did result in more shows being more serialised.because people with now watch the episodes they wants to watch and not just whatever is on TV at the time

I have a feeling that G5 will be a bit more continuous, but we’ll wait and see.

Arcs of mostly self-contained sand-alone episodes with occasional, or subtle references to previous episodes.  
Honestly, nowhere near as continuity based as TMNT, (2003 & 2012) or other shows.

Not to mention, they forget Season 1 barely had any continuity, as is. (And even had some inconsistencies, like the CMC’s brief appearance in the pilot.) Only continuity it has was 2 episodes building up to the Grand Galloping Gala, and Zecora making one brief return after her introduction episode. Other then that, none of the episodes were connected.  
Heck, Luna didn’t even come back for the Gala.

Maybe not, but the seasons in and of themselves can be considered arcs.

I swear people keep forgetting this is not a story arc based show. For years only a handful of episodes actually contributed to the season’s main story line

Maybe not everything needs to be specified, or whatever, like I said, maybe they want to leave some things up to the viewers, and I rather enjoyed Frenemies regardless.
 
And just ‘cause episodes don’t build up to the season finale doesn’t make them “filler episodes,” otherwise 93% of the show is “filler” by your standard, including some episodes I’m sure you like. (Otherwise, you wouldn’t be here.)

Grogar could’ve created him. And besides, we could’ve learned more about these villains in Frienemies. We could’ve learned why they became evil. Plus, the season wasted time on pointless filler episodes.

Well, the show’s ending, so it’s kinda too late for that, unless IDW Comics does something. (Though, fans are very divided on IDW’s handling of some characters’ backstories, especially Sombra’s.)
 
Plus, I kinda like how they leave some things up to the viewer’s imagination. Not every character needs a super detailed backstory novel. Heck, we don’t even know where Discord came from, and such either.

I liked her as a villain frankly, because it was kinda a neat twist, and she kinda stands out from the more obvious looking villains, and she can kinda weaponize her cuteness.
