Even that can make the relationship between Discord and Cosmos more complex since they would not be in love just because they like chaos, but also the fear that their partner will die and be left alone is such a strong factor to stay together despite Toxic that becomes such a relationship.
 
Cosmos could have taken advantage of that fear so that he will be with her again. As for example, Cosmos taking the form of a giant Baast skeleton to remind him of the last time he had a relationship with a mortal, to emphasize that that will continue to happen with anyone and that he does not deserve to suffer, Cosmos will be the only one who will provide eternal love to Discord.
