Her magic was on the fritz for most of the short, and didn’t want to work though why wasn’t actually explained

I kinda got the impression the giant gem was somehow responsible…her magic was faulty until Rainbow Dash dug up the giant gem, at which point Rarity’s magic seemed to surge in power.
