Are there any genuine faults in them that don’t come down entirely to personal preference?
Isn’t that what you just did? You seem to think that you liking the sequel trilogy makes it a fact that they are a quality product instead of it just being your opinion. What makes their opinion less valid than yours?
And are they not getting that? Just because a work isn’t to one’s tastes doesn’t make the work any less quality. Taste is an opinion, and too often people push their opinions as facts.
They may not own the franchise, but they are still paying customers who have the right to demand a quality product.
I actually like the new direction. Much better, in my opinion, than the licensed fanfic cacophony of Legends Canon.
That had good ideas, but monkeys and typewriters and all that.
In general I just try to enjoy fiction. That’s why it exists, after all. Tying someone else’s multimillion dollar franchise so heavily into one’s identity will only ever lead to hardship once that franchise finds a new audience. Best to just… enjoy what ya do.
I have a feeling Star Wars fans have to hear that all the time given the direction the franchise is going. So they’re probably more depressed.
At the end of the day, it comes down to the fact that we don’t own the franchise, something my father often has to tell toxic Star Wars fans; something I think all fans need to hear at some point. It helps remind us that we’re really just along for the ride, and shouldn’t get in to wars over this stuff.
Thanks. I wouldn’t have this nitpick about this episode if weren’t for that company choice.

Cool, but not at the expense of another story, which I think is the main problem between Luna-stans and Tia-stans, Tia-stans tend to want more Tia instead of Luna, where as Luna-stans don’t want Luna to be neglected as she was in the lore.
That and the whole… Tia-stans seem to have never once experienced depression and tend to be the kinds of people that probably lead to depressive kids getting worse, so like… yeah. Not to say ya can’t like Celestia more, just that the general impression we get from that side is a lack of understanding towards depression.

But heaven forbid we talk bad about Luna, lest her rabid fanbase tear off your head for insulting their god.
But that’s not how we think. The fear of asking the people we care most about for help, the feeling of being nothing but a burden, is all too heavy for us. We try to avoid having others deal with our issues, because it means taking another person’s time and energy. It means (in our messed up heads) making them despise us.
I think Celestia would have been a good choice for helping Luna get over her depression and self-harming.
But that would’ve ruined the self-harm allegory, my guy.
Because that’s what the episode was.
Because Luna is best princess, objectively.
Like, you can like Celestia more, but Luna will always be best due to being an accurate depiction of someone suffering from depression and self-harm.
It needed Celestia though to make it perfect.
