I believe the downvotes on this are about low effort pics in exactly the same way I believe gamergate is about ethics in journalism.

If he was, he’s not that anymore now and hasn’t been for a while. Even now it seems you will get a good ten percent downvotes on even well-done original art featuring Flash. A lot of it comes down to folks downvoting and then coming up with an excuse for why later, if you ask me.

That’s because he was a terrible character with no personality who existed for the sole reason of being a Ken doll to Twilight’s Barbie. I’d be willing to guess that hate continues because of the aforementioned low effort shipping pictures. The harder you try to force something down someone’s throat, the more that they’re going to resist and hate it.
 
Myself personally? Ship it if you want, but don’t just crop a couple images or slap text on a picture and pretend that it’s a ship. That’s lazy as hell.

To be fair, Flash Sentry has always attracted downvotes in the past for simply being in a picture. So it’s not entirely what you claim, I would say. Plus, shippers of Sunset and Twilight (any one of them) tend to go out of their way to hate on the ship in the pic above. Less than a few years ago, but it’s still there.

I think it has less to do with the ship and more with people posting cheap, minimally edited or subtitled pics. Personally, I can understand being annoyed by it. But not to the point of rage.
