I always felt Sunny had some Starlight in her. A pony who thinks outside the box. A pony with great ambitions (and Season 5 Starlight had some activist vibes, although I’m pretty sure Starlight still has that). Goes against convention. But also responsible and a leader.
Plus somewhat similar names(mainly last name for Sunny & first for Starlight, though Sunny has a similar color scheme to Luster Dawn)

Worth noting that so far Argyle and his daughter Sunny are the only ponies in all of g5 that know tons about ancient g4 history. If they’re not related to Starlight or another archivist pony by bloodline, then it is by some ancient code or duty.

Well, that’s actually one of the aspect I dislike about the whole lore. Knowing that Twilight’s journey is more prophecy and fate’s making kind of undermines her effort. I know all the Mane Six get their Cutie Marks at the same time and that’s obviously a fate thing, but that can be chalked up as coincidence. I actually like to believe the fate thing only goes as far as giving them Cutie Marks at the same time. Everything else is just character choices. Like Twilight decided by herself to leave Canterlot and that she decided by herself to stay with her friends. Celestia just happened to reunite the elements of harmony because she believed the Mane Five are good ponies to make friends with, not that she knew they’re destined to wield the elements or something. It seems that’s how the show wants to portray anyway. Fate may have a hand in it but it has very little control over character decisions. Twilight just does good things because she is a good pony, not that fate makes her do so.

Fate and prophecy played a huge role in FiM and if G5 takes place in the same continuity as G4, then those forces will still be present. Sunny’s message arriving to Izzy shows that Harmony is still a guiding force.
@Dragonpone
Yeah, agree on this. It would actually be better if the entire cast have nothing to do with Mane Six whatsoever and Argyle just decided to do these researches on his own term, instead of all the destiny prophecy stuff.
These are not mutually exclusive.
actually some thought sunny’s a descendent of scootaloo, mainly the coat and mane color(before achieving the alicorn state)

much like in g4, the sonic rainboom is simply the one that started it all.

After about 500 years there’s too much crossover for it to not happen…
I’m okay if it only happens once or twice in G5.
