That’s a bit weird considering that Discord is an old man now, but okay. I guess I can understand that.

Dizzy I like. But in the sense of an “old man finds someone who reminds him of his lost love”. Everything else I just find, meh. ;-)

You’re probably right. But I would prefer to see it on the screen or in the respective comic, and not always to work with this attitude: Yes, yes, we will make that clear later. I hope Izzy still gets her chance, otherwise I would really be sitting here with my fist in my pocket. But as I said. I don’t like this story mechanic. ;-)

I do understand having constraint for time or pages, and they can’t fit everything they might want to in. It just hurts the impact a bit when something as simple as an apology or recognition of wrongdoing is left for implication rather than shown visibly.

In my head, I’m already envisioning Sunny either realizing what Discord said while they’re all tied up and talking it out with Izzy, or else, when they’re back on the chase, to make sure she’s not left behind again.

Eeyup. I mean, as long as we don’t get to see her parents, you couldn’t make this headcanon worse by speculating whether Izzy isn’t an orphan, maybe even grew up completely alone. And also whether everything is really still quite alright in her upper mind, or whether we are entering dangerous Pinkamena territory here at some point. Probably not, but who knows… ;-)

Oh yeah! I hate it when the show or the comics do that. I don’t understand the SENSE behind it. Neither as a writer, nor as a viewer. What kind of message is that? What kind of story progression mechanic is that supposed to be? It’s just stupid and also completely illogical. Unless someone has a complete lack of empathy or is genetically completely emotionless, you don’t just pass over things like that. It is STUPID! It’s junk! And it is absolutely a no-go for any writer. In my opinion at least. I HATE this mechanic. It has always bothered me. The stupidest way to ensure that the time/page limit of an episode/comic can be met. Then just think of better scenes! It’s not that hard. Stupid, stupid, stupid… UCH!

Sorry, I don’t mean to get upset. But it upsets me. I can’t accept something like this. It’s just miserable time management. The writers probably can’t do anything about it. Such decisions are usually made one floor higher. But I would like to meet the person responsible for the storyboards at a convention. First of all, I would deprive him/her/they of his/her/them professional honor. If someone worked for us like that, they would never be assigned their own project again. Sorry. Hmph. :-/

What troubles me is how we didn’t see any of the others give any kind of response to this. Discord had Izzy admit in front of them that she felt left out and lonely, but none of them, not even Sunny, chimed in or had a visible reaction. It makes me wonder if they even understood what Discord was talking about, or how Izzy was feeling. I really hope that gets addressed.

I always had this headcanon that Izzy’s greatest fear was being abandoned or left alone, so… yeah.

Being a bit lonely too, Fluttershy being my favorite pony of G4 and Izzy being my favorite of G5, this part hit me hard

Actually, I like Old Man Discord. And while I’m reading this, I automatically have the voice of an aged John de Lancie in my head. Jeez.

What I’m saying is that I can relate to this comparison between Izzy and Fluttershy. Logically, one would indeed have to say that Hitch is quasi G5 Fluttershy. That’s also true in terms of hero ability. But in terms of personality they differ (sometimes very much).
I mean, you have to look closely. At first glance Hitch seems like the typical show-off (including his own photo calendar), but you’ve already seen that he actually feels uncomfortable in many situations, and even starts to cry when his feelings are hurt. And I don’t mean that in a negative way. I like this soft side of him.

Izzy, on the other hand, is a kind of reversed Fluttershy. She seems absolutely extroverted and hyper. Almost Pinkie Pie level. But I often wonder if that’s really part of her personality, or just a way to hide her own insecurities and loneliness. Because you can’t forget one thing: Izzy is VERY lonely. In her head, things are playing out differently (almost borderline repression), but in reality, no (or hardly any) other unicorn cares about her and her “crazy” ideas (unicyling).

So Izzy, like Fluttershy in the beginning, is very much outside the bangs of pony society. Neither really fit in, each because of their own “unique” ways. I think that’s what Discord sees in Izzy. At least that’s my interpretation so far, but I haven’t read Issue 2 yet either.

Hmm… I’d be happy if G5 HAD a slightly more complex undertone, unlike G4. If indeed it does, and I’m not overthinking here.

One of the episodes did center around Izzy feeling like the odd mare out…

Yeah, maybe that’s it. Still, no one was counting on an Izzy comparison at all.
There’s a lot of stuff I don’t like about the new comic, but there’s some goodies, and an unexpected Discord-Izzy friendship is definitely a plus.
