I’m giving this one response. After this, if you disagree you’re either trolling or hopeless because it’s not going to be a misunderstanding.

Discipline using a semblance of non-damaging pain has a place as a mindful deterrent and by associating the sense of wrongdoing as bad (and with consequences). But it’s important not to do so when angry or scared, and in a way that’s not embarrassing and in a way that’s not going to leave any damage, even a small mark. And sometimes an older kid/teen needs to be set straight just once or twice (and only once or twice ever). And I understand the debate in calling that abuse…

Hitting someone so hard like this it leaves a mark so nasty it causes a black eye and makeup to cover up is never ok, particularly for someone who didn’t even do any real wrongdoing.

In addition to this, Misty is starved thin to the point she faints the next day. You can’t defend that in any way, either. Opaline clearly isn’t doing this for any benefit on Misty’s part.

Michael had innate talent, but his big claim to fame occurred when others rescued him from that train wreck and gave him a unique spotlight; if anything, his father was holding him back. Even so, Michael became extremely socially inept, underdeveloped, became subject to a lot of exploitation, and never had a normal adult life even by celebrity standards. He was plagued by several habits and constantly needed other people to help him out with affairs.

And if you want to take the helicopter parenting approach even without the abuse as leading to success, it doesn’t; more often you see similar levels of ineptitude or severe rebellion. When you throw in abuse, things only worsen.

There’s thousands of athletes and celebrities who succeeded because of supportive parents offering resources and encouragement. Jo Jackson was a control freak and likely a greedy bastard. You can see how ugly this abuse can be in the film I, Tonya and it’s clearly not justified.
It’s not punishment or even useful discipline at that point, that’s parental control as an unhealthy coping mechanism by the parent exhibiting their own psychological problems onto their children.
So even your prime example does not hold water.

There is zero basis for this. We don’t know Misty’s origin except she was taken in by Opaline at some point, and she was clearly needy to submit herself to a literal tyrant villain. Even so, she’s also a fictional character, likely created as a means of revealing the signs and damage of abuse as being unhealthy. It’s supposed to evoke raw, untapped, bad-tasting emotions, not encourage the behavior.

Plus this is also disproven by, ynow, most people on earth?? and in show. The m5 cast were never abused and they turned out to be lovely ponies. While nature vs nurture is a whole ass debate for another time, having strong parental figures to guide your morals as a kid is extremely important. Children are clay, they have no form or opinions until they are imparted on them by someone else, they harden over time but can still shift.

yes abuse can make someone stronger and can effect your personality and outlook on life, but it is NEVER justified. Its the fallacy of the starving artist, that artists can only make art if theyre mentally tortured.
Yes being at extremes can push people to do exceptional things, but promoting it as a good or preffered option to a healthy household is soooo fucking awful. Humans need healthy relationships to grow, inflicting trauma on them scars them for life.

Dont talk about things you dont know about especially serious topics. Child abuse isnt something to make light of

A lot of criminals, especially violent criminals come from abusive homes, if you bother to google anything about the worst school shooters, serial killers, rapists, drug dealers there is always a history of abuse.

Beating a child does not create musical talent. If that was the case, every foster kid I’ve met would likewise be incredibly successful instead of being addicted and in some cases even dead. Those cases are an exception, there may very well be a perfect blend of varying circumstances from which the child may find a way to benefit in some aspects from the abuse, that does not mean abuse is indicative of success.

I’d have to disagree with you on the point of the predicted personality of the victim following physical abuse, this isn’t a normal case, it’s a far more overreaching style. Constantly monitored when absent, but neglected when present, combined with the physical abuse we may see a pattern of abrasiveness but I would argue a more paranoid-type might come about from this, or perhaps something a bit more akin to an attachment disorder, but characterizing them as a more anti-social type I think is inaccurate

If Opaline was a bad parent who doesnt care, Misty woudn’t behave like Fluttershy, she would act like Gilda or Diamond Tiara because that would be the personality she took from her household. The fact that you like Misty more than Sprout is because how different their parenthood methods are.

Not really. Kids from difficult parents who beat them grow better than kids from absent and apathy parents. They learn lessons through tough parenting, the others learn nothing and they grow into criminals.
