I always like the idea of snails actually being good at making barding.

armor or protective wear. It’s a stretch but it could explain a snail with a shell for a cutie mark.

Snips was easy, but 15 minutes was not enough time for me to work out a role to give Snails and draw the corresponding items.

I guess you can interpret this as Snails being a mechanic who is slow but steady with his work? Cuties marks don’t always denote occupation.
