…as long as they contain Cyanide or Tetrodotoxin, keep ‘em a-comin’ for SG! And whilst on the subject of ‘Cakes’…:

With villain adoration, it’s like this: we do know that stealing people’s individuality, turning the world into a maelstrom of chaos, or posing as someone’s fiancee for long enough for it to have disturbing implications while you plot to drain the life force of everyone who loves those you and your minions pose as are not nice things to do, but…
…it’s just a TV show. So you can play with them however you wanna.
Also, it’s cool to have an actual villain show up. There aren’t that many of them in this show. The adventure stories are always going to be more popular than the “lesson of the week for the little girls” stories to us older fans. One day the problem is “Twilight is anxious over sending a letter late,” another it’s “Fluttershy needs to come up with a nice way of telling the Breezies to go home,” another it’s “a monster escapes Pony Hell and begins eating the world’s magic, ending in a no-holds-barred magical deathmatch… wait, what?” The villains from those episodes stay in your mind more, they make you wonder how they got the way they are, what they might be like during downtime, if they could return, etc. etc. They’re just more compelling.
Sonata Dusk has a cute, fun personality. Is she really that bad, or someone who might soften if you just gave her a hug and ate some tacos with her? Or can you be funny and at the same time so evil that if only she had the chance she’d make Tirek look like a kitten? Would the rivers of Equestria run red even as she kept giggling, talking about lunch, and totally missing that your last words before she tore your heart out and ate it while it was still beating was sarcastic?
tl;dr Villains are cool. What they bring to the story is cool. We want moar.

+1!

As frustrating as I find the adoration of villains in this fandom, that’s swinging too far the other way, IMHO.

“Baddies are always “loveable”

The only way I ‘loved’ Elliot Carver in the Bond film “Tomorrow Never Dies” is when he got chewed to giblets by his own drill torpedo.

I love it when the villains get theirs. As in Just Desserts.

Duck - Shills for Shillary

Baddies are always “loveable”, if they weren’t we wouldn’t have any vested interest in the Good Guy (Or, Gals)… I mean you’d have to be brain dead to think they’d stand a chance in Heck of ever winning… But, we still root them on anyway!

Yeah I forgot about Tirek, and Sombra too… Though I never really saw much in Sombra to begin with… I really hope the Writers haven’t forgotten about him already.

@Ichijoe
There’s Tirek too, but he might fall under Nightmare Moon category of villain, except he actually does something instead of providing clues to his own defeat. (and inadvertantly helping Discord develop too)

Starlight is definitly a threat though. If she does get enough power, like say, the Alicorn amulet… I shudder to think of the consequences.

Duck - Shills for Shillary

TBF Nightmare Moon felt too generic as the all-purpose baddie needed to sell such Stories. I dare say the Pilot Eps felt too failure in that respect too.

Discord - Had massive potential! Though I guess they could only take it so far before it got old.

Queen Chrysalis - Has yet to come back… I’d say that shes got as much, if not more potential as a Villain.

Starlight Glimmer - Oh my headcannon right now… CMCs finally get their Trampstamps Cutiemarks and, she suddenly takes then away! I can taste the delicious tears now!

Duck - Shills for Shillary

Of all the So-Called Villains this Show has had… I think Starlight, could turn out to be the BEST ONE yet! If… Of course, the Writers don’t ruin her, that is.
