I’m not especially fond of the way Amore was portrayed in the comic either, in addition to barely getting shown at all there isn’t much to suggest that she took proper care to handle Sombra when she knew exactly what danger he posed and she can pretty much be blamed for causing her own fate. Overall however I still like the design and concept of the character enough to at least appreciate her existence, so I simply work around the rougher parts to create my own version that’s a little more appealing (and not just in the sense of slapping on breasts). Such is the nature of fan work, you aren’t forced to adhere entirely to the canon of the original material - if I limited myself to that then I would have to hate Nightmare Rarity since I didn’t really like how she was portrayed either, but instead I worked out the character in a different form that I found more suitable.
Regarding the topic of hypocrisy that @ExistenceNull brought up, I can agree in the sense that people shouldn’t really object to the cruel punishment of Amore when similar things have been done before in the series, although I do also feel that it’s rather silly for people to dismiss Amore for having weak characterization when numerous other characters have been like that. Sombra himself was barely even a character at all in his original appearance and that didn’t stop anyone from doing fan art of him in the two and a half years between his debut and the first hint of any actual backstory he got in Fiendship is Magic. Hell, Sombra had even been confirmed to be killed off for real by Meghan McCarthy - and technically he still is even with the possibility of his return considering that the comics are only a spin-off subservient to the canon of the show - and no one was complaining about that, so why do that in this case?
Also @soundtea I’m aware that Amore doesn’t technically “die”, though also as @TyroneBiggums pointed out it still isn’t exactly looking that good for her, but at the same time there had still been enough uncertainty for it to be possible that she’d return, and given that an upcoming arc in the comics is presumably going to be a followup to Sombra’s backstory I’m willing to hold out hope.
Well yeah, but the point I was getting across was that it wasn’t necessarily some sort of horrific existance that she had been subjected to.
Ehhh, not really.
NMM was destined to come back. So was Discord. And Sombra, and Tirek. They were all going to come back eventually.
It is an extremely real possibility that no one will ever be able to bring back Amore. That’s death.
I bet thats just hasbro damage control. Shes about as dead as the crumbled Gargoyles from Disney’s Gargoyles.
@Kappe
To be fair I don’t recall it ever being stated she was ‘aware’. Just that she was alive in the sense that she could be fixed and healed.
That was me over thinking your reply, I apologize.
I will say Discord, by his nature, doesn’t count, and Luna technically still had some form of mental stimulation, keeping the effects of such punishments to a minimum.
I would also like to state that I’m not trying to start an argument, I just lack any real skill or tact in subjects like this.
I don’t remember ever going on record for defending the punishments Celestia dished out.
And at the risk of going on record for it right now, I’ll say that Luna and Discord seeming pretty okay with putting it behind them makes it forgiven and in general significantly less dark than what happened to Amora.
And as I said, Celestia’s chosen to do it to others, acting as though its a better solution, and no one cares. I hate hypocrisy, in any form as it shows just how biased, and indirectly dishonest, people are about their morals and ideals.
That’s all fine and dandy, but I don’t like “fates worse than death” in my ponies. Or death.
Honestly, in my opinion she earned it. Plus the punishments meted out by the ‘good guys’ are often worse or equal to this.
Idiocy, for some one in charge of a country, should hold a higher punishment then the average citizen. Plus, everything that went wrong is, at it’s core her fault.
She gets no sympathy from me.
Probably the only problem I had with that comic.
Actually worse, she’s apparently still alive, just blasted into rocky kibbles.
Which is honestly downright horrifying.
