The game never specifies what is was built for, or can do, but it’s obvious that Egg-belly intended to use it to help him take over the world.  
There is a moment in “Sonic & Knuckles” (during when Eggman was trying to repair it) where it uses it’s lazer eyes, to cause the volcano to become active again, so we do get one moment showing what it’s weapons are capable of, and are quite powerful.
 
Some also consider the “Space Colony Arc” from SA2 as quite similar to the Death Egg, as well.
 
The comics are basically a different canon from the games, though they do adapt some events from said games.  
A new Death Egg is also currently in the Sonic comic canon, (making this the second one in the series) and is basically functioning as a mobile floating HQ for Dr. Eggman.

Speaking of Egg…what exactly WAS the Death Egg supposed to do in the Sonic 2, 3 and Knuckles saga? I know the Archie comics (as far as I’ve looked up…back when I was a subscriber (until issue 50, which was when Sonic finally defeated Robotnik), I never got the “special issues” like the Mecha-Knuckles vs. Mecha-Sonic fight, so I started with Sonic becoming roboticized…then the next issue began with Sonic on trial) say that it was a planet roboticizer, but it didn’t seem to have that power in the Genesis/Mega Drive titles.

It’s not really a big issue much anymore. I like to call him by both names frankly. Sega even stated officially now his real name is “Robotnik” (shown in SA2 as his grandfather is called “Gerald Robotnik”) while “Eggman” is like an alias, or something.
 
And for that matter I still like to call Bowser by his old/Japanese name “King Koopa.” (Kinda funny Bowser has the opposite name issue of Robotnik/Eggman.)
 
I also still kinda like Derpy’s old alternate fanon name “Ditzy-Doo,” but unfortunately the “Derpygate” incident of 2011 tainted that name for most fans. (Though, I have nothing against “Derpy” either.)

The Archieverse is also a good option. But do you I want to see, more than anything else? A team up between Boom!Eggman and Queen Chrysalis. They’d be like Dr. Drakken and Shego!

I wish I had cable again so I could watch Cartoon Network, Disney XD, Disney Junior and ABC Family…who’s the sick man that decided $120 a month for internet and a DVR was reasonable?

Perhaps, though what about the Archieverse? (Probably my fav’ canon, even with the unfortunate reboot.)
 
It would be fun to see Sally & Twilight geeking out, Antoine & Fluttershy being scared of things, Amy getting excited seeing all the cute ponies, and such.

I heard that, and yeah many feel the show was better then the WiiU game, at least. (The 3DS game faired better, so it’s getting a sequel.)
 
Shame the “Sonic Boom” comic didn’t do to well. (It was quite funny.) Though, I hear they will continue to show “Sonic Boom” comics in the “Sonic Digest” series. Even new ones maybe.

Also, do you know that the show is getting a second season? Rather embarrassing that the cartoon is doing better than the games or comic book. I still hope for a future main-series Sonic title that’s back in the “modern” setting…that isn’t the Olympic games.

For some reason, I think Sonic Boom is more fit for a MLP crossover than the main Sonic universe.

I saw that ep’ actually, and admittedly I squeed like a girl happy to see that particular character come back. (He was even treated more serious in the show, making him the first serious villain/character.)
 
Y’know, this show/episode also marks Metal Sonic’s first appearance in a Sonic TV show. Not counting the OVA “movie” which was actually straight-to-video 2-part anime.

Dude. A villain from the games made an appearance in the episode…I can’t remember the exact title, but I believe it said “One-Armed Hedgehog”. The one where Sonic is accused of stealing various items all over the island, including Eggman’s particle accelerator.
 
The culprit? None other than METAL SONIC.

Kinda ironic given how badly-received the “Rise of Lyric” WiiU game was. Though, to be fair the 3DS one “Shattered Crystal” is better, and the TV show is genuinely funny, and enjoyable. The “Sonic Boom” comics are pretty good too.

there’s going to be a fanfic where Derpy, Rainbow Dash and Dinky somehow get taken to wherever Sonic Boom takes place in, but Dinky gets a crush on Knuckles and Derpy wants him to be her big brother, and throughout the entire fic Rainbow Dash and Sonic are just arguing, isn’t there?
