I suppose they discarded the idea because the glasses looked very extravagant (i don’t blame them, it does), but it would have been great if at least she would have used them in welcome to the show…  
And also I suppose it was discarded at a very high point of the development of the film, because its doll still used them (the dolls were too accurate to the outfits of the movie)

If the Dazzlings ever come back, I hope Sonata has her shades back. For those who don’t know, her initial prototype design had these shades. You can actually still see them in the intro credits/title sequence of Rainbow Rocks.
