Why? Does it matter that much what filetype do you embed/resize? What’s the catch?

The tl;dr is a lot of fundamentals in the site backend rely on only taking in and processing image files. A lot of rewriting and redesigning would be needed.

The webm conversion seems to have distrupted the timing of real short gifs.

I get that almost every time I load an /images/ page, but it goes away as soon as the image loads; it seems to be placeholder text that gets dispensed with once Javascipt elements start loading.

The spoiler tag is acting funny. I have the questionable tag spoilered, not hidden, and yet on questionable images, the “tag hidden image” shows up.

I cant see gifs with Chrome

I don’t know if it’s already mentioned before but i have problem with gif.  
When i research animated image, gifs are displayed in the research list but when i open the image page, there is no image displayed : i only have the bar where i can favorite and download the image and the comment but there is nothing between. And when i open the image only, it’s displayed.
 
I use a ipad mini and i had not any problem before. So is it a bug from the site ?

Using Chrome. I can see gifs just fine. No problem with >>794450 or >>794632, for example.

I still don’t understand how could you design a system, so that enabling another image format is not possible. You could even convert webps to jpgs and for almost all purposes treat it as jpg and only offer the original for download. Or even don’t offer the webp at all. It’s better than nothing.
 
Is the source of derpibooru publicly accessible?

It looks like every spoiler image is currently using the default “Tag Hidden” image instead of the custom ones. Any idea what’s going on?

No, and it’s not impossible, it’s just a bunch of work and not something we see any demand or use for at this time. It’s not off the cards but it’s not on it either, we’ve got more important stuff to do.

Non-looping gifs (for example >>795210) still loop when converted to MP4 in Chrome.
 
Not sure if this is fixable on your end, but I thought I’d mention it anyway.

Why on earth do non-looping animated GIFs exist, anyway?  
But if you really want it to play just once, right click on the video and toggle “Loop”.

I don’t know if this is a bug (it probably is), but >>795828 has a comment that has no name attached to it at all. The comment just… is. BP #AFCD has replied to it and it only displays @ as the name and nothing else.
 
EDIT: Not a bug, but Unicode trickery. The poster’s profile is here, and his/her username is not empty, but actually contains 16 ZWNJ (Zero-Width Non-Joiner) characters which are invisible. Derpi should reject certain Unicode characters in user names to prevent these kinds of things.

The list of “invisible” UTF-8 characters and other stuff that can be abused in that way is huge. We just have to deal with this shit very occasionally. It’s a small price to pay for having users able to use internationalized names (be it Cyrillic, Kanji etc).

Trying to fave images only causes them to show “Error”. But only from the images window.

Close the browser and try it again, and disconnect/reconnect if that doesn’t fix it. Some script on the /images pages occasionally derps and randomly won’t communicate up/down/fave votes back to Derpibooru, but it usually goes away if you log out/in or restart the browser; in my experience it does it a lot more on mobile connections than landline or satellite, so it’s probably a transient connectivity issue.
